I just found stacks of love letters my dad wrote to my mother when she lived in France during the late 70's.

Here is an excerpt that best decribes the theme of many others:

“ Babe, I’ve been doing a lot of thinking about how much you mean to me and I’ve concluded that you mean more to me than anything else. I’ve been thinking about our relationship and how we can make it better. I did some talking to a good friend last night and couldn’t get my mind off you and how much more I can do for you. I’m just beginning to realize how much more I have to learn about being sensitive to your needs. I guess we all don’t learn things all at once. This is good because we can grow and learn how to make each other’s life better and better- and I want to make your life sweeter and sweeter.”

“… these are a reflecting times for me, babe. I look back and try to see what areas of my self need alteration. I see a lot of room for improvement for myself - I want to learn to be more mentally intimate with you. I guess you must love me an awful lot, and I only want to express my love to you more in a verbal manner.”
