Agreed. This logic is wrong, however, I don’t care WHAT the creator wants to call it. It’s “Gif” with a g as in “G-oat”. It stands for GRAPHICS INTERCHANGE FORMAT. GRAPHICS starts with a “GUH” sound. We don’t call them jraphics…. so I mean… I can’t and refuse to accept “jif” but I don’t really care what everyone else calls it. But I will not accept being corrected about it. XD

Seriously though, it’s such a dumb argument in general.  I think the “jif” is the commonplace way of pronouncing it.  Most people (in my experience) use it, so whether the logic is wrong or not (and your argument is good logic, I’m not going to sit here and pretend otherwise) it’s still pointless to change at this point.*  It’s already ingrained.  And since it’s such a minor and small thing, I don’t think it’s even worth the effort.  I, for one, won’t stop saying “jif.”  I think it sounds better and I’m comfortable and happy with it, and the “gif” pronunciation makes me go “????” every time.  But I also really don’t care if someone else pronounces it “gif” either.  What bothers me is people getting genuinely offended and angry over it, and making crude and sarcastic and angry (and sometimes in your face) comments over it.  Holy butts, just don’t!

TL;DR idgaf just everyone needs to stop being assholes to each other over a dumb abbreviation

*That’s not to say I don’t think some ingrained things need changing.  But this isn’t social justice commentary and does not apply to that discussion or topic. I put this note here because it’s Tumblr and I know you know how people overreact. >_O

Hahahaha <3 I agree, my lovely friend. It’s a silly argument. But I will point out my very different experience. I’m not really SURE the common way to say it, considering all of the people I know say “gif.” So… EITHER WAY sincerely, I don’t… really care. I just felt like explaining it with REAL people logic instead of sarcastically presented stupidity. XD

My logic is real people logic, you butthole! “Language changes” is a totally valid argument (and if I wasn’t so tired I guarantee I can find other acronyms where the pronunciation doesn’t match up with the words).
