Rapper Lor Scoota's killing stunned his family, friends and those in Baltimore who heard their lives described in his songs. His YouTube videos, with their shout-outs to "The A," as he called Pennsylvania Avenue, and familiar scenes of dirt bikers and rowhouses, reflected a reality shared by many of his peers — the drug dealing, the loss of friends to violence, the often heartbreaking yearning for something better.

This was a pivotal moment for Baltimore. The life of one of our own (who was doing very well for himself, and was also helping the youth of the Baltimore community) was taken way too soon.

The culture of rap and the city of Baltimore go together like bread and butter. In fact, there are a few mainstream artists the hail from Baltimore; Bandhunta Izzy, YBS Skola, Young Moose and the late Lor Scoota, just to name a few.
