Consent Survey - Please Help!
Myself and a friend are forming a theatre company - Overdue Theatre. It's female led and based in Manchester.
After a lot of research and TEDtalk watching (I've posted some of the best below) we’ve decided that for our first show we will create a piece of verbatim theatre which explores the pleasure gap in heterosexual encounters involving sex and intimacy (this same gap is hugely reduced in the LGBTQ+ community) and issues of consent.
We want to explore the language with which we use (or don’t) to navigate situations in which consent plays a vital role. By consent, we mean not only the action of saying no (or not saying yes), but the action of getting what it is you do want, understanding what it is, and asking for it.
We are calling out for anyone who is willing to share their story, anonymously, of any situation(s) where these issues, or issues like them come into play (more specifically in situations involving sex and intimacy). We need as many voices as possible to create the best and most representative piece.
This is a completely open call out. Because of the personal nature of these stories you will remain completely anonymous (there is an option to leave contact details at the end if you’re happy to talk to us about it) but PLEASE be aware that we are collecting these stories to help inform a piece of verbatim theatre, and as such they may be used. If you are not comfortable with this, there is an option to opt out, however you can still share your story in order to help inform the piece as a whole.
