âToday, we will be discussing werewolves. Can anyone tell me what werewolves are?â
Lily Evansâ hand instantly shot up. âThey are XXXXX-classified beasts in The Ministry of Magic. A werewolf, also known as a lycanthrope, is a creature which normally resembles a human being but, upon the rising of the full moon, became an uncontrollable wolf.â
He wasnât going to be listening to that, knowing that Peter and James were in the hospital wing, waiting for Remus to wake up.
Siriusâ hand, instinctively, shot up. âFirst of all, they should only be classified under the full moon, because during every other day of the month, theyâre human. Second of all, The Ministry doesnât know jackshitââ
âAnd they do not resemble a human being, because they are one. Third of all, lycanthropy is an infection, not something youâre born with.â
âNever said it is,â Evans said, turning her head to face him with a smile, but he could almost feel her teeth gritting, âbut if you were to look in The Prophet at the attacks, thereâs a few of them of werewolves, right?â
âThatâs a generalisation, Evans. There are werewolves who live in the wilderness and werewolves who live among humans. And the werewolves who live on the outskirts of society were driven away by wix, who pointed at them and called them beasts and monsters.â
âWhy so invested in the topic, Black? Are you a werewolf?â Snape drawled, barely looking up from his paper.
âYeah,â Sirius replied, barely sparing him a glance, ânext time you piss me off, Iâll come to the dorms and maul you in your sleep.â
Snape settled on scoffing at him and turning back to talking to his âmate.â Sirius focused his attention back on Lily.
âAnd letâs not forget the werewolf registry, who is cruel and, frankly, idiotic by itself. Who expects werewolves to go sign themselves up to be locked up? That must be one of the least thoughtful things theyâve done, which says a lot, all things considered. Nobodyâs gonna go sign themselves up for something like that.â
âIt would be a protection method. Theyâre safeââ
âTheyâre not exactly fucking comfortable, though, are they?â
âWell, no,â Evans replied, sounding slightly irritated. âObviously not. But it would be better for those around them, too. Would you like to be ripped to shreds?â
âNo, I would not, and no, it would not be, because itâs uncomfortable and the transformation is horrible enough as is. Maybe, for one, we should think about,â He air-quoted, âthe lower creatures, and try finding options that benefit them especially, more than us. Theyâve got as many rights as we have.â
The bell rang; a class dismissed.
âMeet me after class, Mr. Black.â
âBlack! One second!â Evans said, as Sirius started packing his bags. He grinned to himself; bingo.
