    WHEN A BIG TRAUMA comes into the ER, it will go one of two ways. It went the worst way for Derek that day. He lost 3 out of 5 of the victims and he was close to losing it completely. His answer to anger had always been alcohol and it didn’t fail him that night either. He sunk onto a bar stool unaware that his ex-wife was sat near by until she spoke. He lifted his head and frowned a little but took the offer. “Thanks.” He mumbled and took the drink offered to him by Joe. “Were you working on the trauma too?”

addison   was  painfully  aware  that  this  was  how  derek  coped  at  times  ,    this  and  driving  too  fast  .  she  nodded  in  reply  to  his  question  ,  ‘  i  wouldn’t  even  be  sat  here  if  i  hadn’t  been  working  on  that  ,  i’ve  got  much  better  places  to   be  than  here . ’  it’s  not  that  joe’s  was  a  bad  place  but  addison  liked  to  think  she  had  more  class  than  the  bar  that  everyone  in  the  hospital  frequented . ‘ how  many  did  you  lose  ?  i  know  it  sucks  but  moping  at  joe’s  can’t  exactly  help . ’  it  was  ironic  because  she  was  also  doing  exactly  that  .

addison  sighed  with  frustration ,  her  final  surgery  of  the  day  had  gone  on  longer  than  expected  and  she  just  wanted  to  get  out  of  the  hospital .  she  scrubbed  out  and  went  to  get  changed  into  her  street  clothes .  no  less  than  twenty  minutes  later  and  she  was  at  joe’s  nursing  a  vodka  soda  with  a  much  more  relaxed  attitude .  ‘ hey ,  you  look  like  you’ve  had  a  worse  day  than  me … ’  she  mumbled  across  to  the  person  who’d  just  sat  beside  her .  she  smiled  in  their  direction  and  lifted  her  drink , ‘ i  think  you  need  one  of  these ,  my  treat . ’
