i think its crazy how little the subtext of jay being a sexual abuse victim is really discussed and addressed in the fandom. like to me its such a centric theme of his character and his very pronounced hatred towards rapists and pedophiles in particular. like he beat the living shit out of CSAM producers. hes shown to respond to threats from older men by 'hitting' on them sometimes in a way that is not dissimilar to past grooming victims. he has a thing about kids and sex workers and protecting them with everything he got. hes consistently and CONSTANTLY treated akin to a rape victim with the way hes stigmatised as 'evil' and 'angry' and 'inpure' for his anger and counter actions. its just. so horribly clear especially in some of the earlier writing and I hate that its just another thing thats kinda forgotten in the later iterations of his story. in general we should include more about his trauma of being impovrished and everything that comes with that in a way that isnt disgustingly classist and meant to excuse the lack of benefit of a doubt he gets graced with everything he does.

Please read this because it is EXTREMELY important me (a transgender man) and to other trans individuals.

The US Government is currently trying to pass an incredibly dangerous national law for trans youth called HR 2616.

This bill would ban all Federally funded schools from teaching about gender identity or sexual orientation, prevent teachers from using the correct pronouns and names for trans students, remove books with any trans representation in them, and even go as far as to prevent teachers from acknowledging trans identity AT ALL.

Any school that does not follow this will lose all federal funding. This bill would also require teachers to forcibly out trans students to their families, which would be fatal to any trans student with a transphobic Family or just hateful family in general. Trans people are already a group that already has some of the highest rates of being victim to suicide, domestic violence, and sexual assault.

This bill actively makes teachers put those innocent children at such a big risk. This bill has rapidly passed the house this week with support from all 209 republicans, as well as 8 democrats. But, it's still being voted on in the senate, which means there is still time to help stop this.

To help stop this, you can visit 5calls.org (look up 2616 in the search bar), one of the most top issues filed Oppose Attacks on LGBTQ+ Students. Once you put in your general location, it will pull-up contact information for your senator, and give you a script for calling them.

If you are a minor and/or do not feel comfortable doing this, PLEASE repost this on here, or any other platform you are on/can find! This needs to be heard and fought against.

they're not super common but i really do appreciate characters who are introduced as one gender and later revealed to be closeted trans. i like that it challenges the audience to really think about how they perceive trans people because realistically not every trans person you meet is going to be out to you at first. yes we introduced this character as a man and now we're asking you to reframe her as a woman after you've already gotten to know her. can you be normal about that? can you be normal when it happens to people you know in real life? i hope you can.

I have two (2) different ocs where this applies. One is non-binary, a childhood friend of the protagonist, and only comes out around 150 pages into the second book. The other is a trans woman, who is the protagonist and unreliable narrators her way into a gender reveal at the halfway point. I enjoy fucking with my readers, and making them question things, such as whether they can be normal about trans people existing.

BUT he's also a super interesting character, especially in the current political climate. It really feels like they wanted to remind some people that yes, Star Wars IS political.

He's labelled as just doing what he was programmed to do. Yk, "just doing his job". This is how ICE agents, cops, the nazis, SO many people are labelled. But it's also made clear that he has a choice whether he follows that programming. He says he's supposed to report Maul to the Empire, but Lawson doesn't want him to so he doesn't.

Definitely a reminder that all those people "just doing their jobs" still have a choice.

Also he accomplished getting these 3 to agree on something. Look how they're looking at him.
