The Night Shepard
A little comic from last spring I made that hasn’t really had a home anywhere.
I liked the idea of immortality leading to a reverence for life and the world around it, rather than nihilism and wanton destruction. It was also a comforting thought that if immortal beings walked among us, they could see the future of our hope become a reality someday… so it felt relevant again.
Hey artists, C. Spike Trotman, founder of Iron Circus Comics, just posted an invaluable thread on depicting different types of black hair. I’d do the thing where you screencap the whole thread and post it but it’s just too long (which is great because it’s a whole lot of useful information!) Give her a follow while you’re there.
Anyway, go check it out. I just wanted to save it and share it because I didn’t know how much I didn’t know!
This is an amazing resource, not only for artists, but for writers too! I love this!
{ID - tweet from @/Iron_Spike that reads, “Black Hair for Non-Black Artists: a Cheat Sheet Thread. Hi, folks! Just spur-of-the-moment decided to put together some reference for folks who want to draw/model black characters in their work, but arent confident they won’t make simple, obvious mistakes w/r/t black hair. END ID}
I noticed in the comments that some people can’t see the thread, so I took screenshots for y'all!
More will come in reblogs, since tumblr has an image limit
dnd character design :] !!!
and some sketches!
One very important note on the immense value of the Internet Archive that I haven't seen mentioned yet:
It crawls major newspapers like the New York Times multiple times per day.
For anything other than one of those scrolling updates breaking news pages, you can access it from the Archive usually within an hour or two of it being published. No paywall. You want international news? You got it. Opinion? That too. Recipes? It's all here. Page not yet archived? There's a button for that and now you got it.
There are various paywall-evading extensions and tricks out there, but they don't always work. This does.
Go forth and read the newspaper.
Hey tumblr, have you ever thought to yourself, “dang it’d sure be cool to set a project in something other than the current times,” but when you go to look up references on google, all you get is a horrible historical pastiche of days gone by?
Well boy howdy, do I have a reference for you!
The Wishbook Web has scans of entire consumer catalogs from past decades, ranging from the early 30s to the late 80s. Each catalog has pages upon pages of reference of clothing, accessories, and shoes for all ages, as well as toys, gadgets, and all sorts of junk that you might buy for yourself or your loved ones. While the website exclusively has Christmas catalogs, the photos and illustrations show products that you could use year-round.
this needs a reblog.
link in the post is dead, here’s an updated one

never not thinking about giant cisterns. THATS immanentizing the eschaton. when we get to heaven and its a bunch of giant wet concrete tunnels with vast columns holding up the ceiling, then you will see...
you know about the tokyo storm drains, yeah?
yeah that's what inspired this post :)
im very exited to go here when i die :)
every time wearing western "cowboy" style clothing becomes fashionable again we don't bring back western shirts and i think that's a terrible shame because they're sexy as fuck
like... gays... imagine how unstoppable we'd be if we all dressed like this more often
anyway. i think everything is secretly at least one of the following:
(a) a ritual
(b) a resurrection
(c) a haunting
(d) an apotheosis
(e) fate
(f) a labyrinth
(g) a funeral
@olreid is CORRECT

I…I need context. I’m gonna research all this shit one day.. If I remember after work
I understand most of these!
So there’s this artist, Alex Schaefer, who makes a bunch of paintings of Chase Bank burning.
There’s just
so many of these
and I think it’s incredibly funny but
I just read this bit from the artist and
This is a "plein air" painting which means I set up my easel right across the street of this Chase bank in my city and painted it like it had caught fire. The police questioned me on the spot. Three weeks later Homeland Security was knocking on the door to my home. The question they kept asking me was "Do you hate these banks?" I can honestly say yes.
And I just think this is the greatest artist statement I’ve ever read.
stop everything, this is bitty doing research for his thesis
there's more lmao, unhinged bitty energy
I lost it at- should be pale- and he fucking compared it to his own pasty arm. Legend
