˚₊· ➳❥ light yagami is not someone that moriko knows how to be around, and it's an entirely unfounded discomfort. they like him well enough, of course, but. . . he scares them, sometimes. it's his eyes, they think. at times, they're a warm &. welcoming brown, kind &. caring when he glances at them. other times, and perhaps it's just a trick of the light or their own paranoia, it's as if the light has drained from them, and the hue has shifted from brown to red. it's silly, of course. but it's enough that when they swear that shift has occurred and he speaks to them, their blood runs cold.

light doesn't speak unkindly to them. he never does. but something about this now makes their skin crawl. moriko can't help but to look above his head, staring at his name &. where his lifespan should be. this is one downside of the eye deal, they've found, where they should normally take comfort in the value of human life. . . note holders are different. it almost feels dehumanizing. they bite down their anxiety and remember that he's spoken to them, and they should speak back.

❝ oh, no. it's. . . i'm over what happened back then, ❞ it takes them a moment; what had they been talking about? before moriko follows their steps back to where the night had began: a simple conversation, about who they had been before all of this, how they had gotten here, with the family that will never be theirs but that they have forced themself to fit into like an old, too small sweater. uncomfortable, but passable. ❝ it's just. . . sometimes i wonder about them, i guess? i don't know if they're still alive, and i guess i could look them up and see for myself, but i think that might be harder than anything else. ❞

moriko smiles and it's a practiced one.
