And she had nothing to fall back on: not maleness, not whiteness, not ladyhood, not anything. And out of the profound desolation of her reality she may very well have invented herself.
Toni Morrison (via blackfeminismsresource)
I feel like this backs the idea that we have to unlearn everything we have been taught and relearn things about ourselves, our roots and our ancestors. We tend to look into others and lose ourselves and sometimes we do not take the proper time be alone. Alone does not always mean lonely. And if you feel lonely when you are alone, maybe you are in bad company.

Please Share! In honor of the transgender men and women who lost their lives to extreme violence and suicide in 2016.
When I observe what heinous acts that are inflicted upon Black bodies, I have noticed that many movements have focused more on the deaths of males. Although deaths like Sandra Bland have been highlighted, the main focus is the Black man. This also makes me feel like like the safest place for Black women is within Black Feminism. A lot of the voices that Black movements refuse to listen to are those belonging to the Black LGBTQ community.
