“Bu bum. Bu bu bu bu bu bu bum🎶.”
So a headcannon: There was a post going around a while ago about how Aziraphale didn’t understand what an answering machine was based off how he talked to Crowley’s voicemail.
So imagine– Aziraphale will get mopey if he goes to voicemail too often, because he doesn’t get why Crowley won’t respond to his questions and that, while the occasional one-sided conversation is nice, they weren’t nice this frequently. And it got to the point, where sometimes, when Crowley would call, Aziraphale would pick the phone up and then set it on a table and walk away.
Eventually, Crowley had to sit Aziraphale down and explain how voicemail and answering machines worked. It took several hours before Aziraphale finally asked if it was like “a mailbox for phone calls.” And a thoroughly exhausted Crowley had said yes.
Now Aziraphale calls Crowley more often than necessary just to leave “phone letters,” as he calls them, about the bookshop and new restaurants that have been popping up, and customers that nearly made him sell a book that day, or whatever was on his mind.
Bonus: All of Aziraphale’s voicemails start with “Dear Crowley” or “Crowley dear,” and end with “Sincerely, Aziraphale.” On one occasion, when he was feeling particularly brave and a little tipsy, he ended a call with “your angel, Aziraphale.”
Crowley thinks it’s all very sweet, and he can’t bear to delete any of the messages. He’s started cataloguing them by date, and he’ll listen to his favorites when he’s feeling particularly lonely.
I don’t know okay I just love chubby aziraphale so much
