He shook his head, glancing at the bed. A comment about how she needed chairs was on the tip of his tongue, but he let it go and just sat.

He watched her as she went about the small apartment. “Thought maybe leaving for a while would count as a vacation, but it wasn’t that relaxing,” he finally said.

Tifa hardly was ever in her apartment long enough to receive many visitors so she hadn’t bothered with chairs. Fetching the brownies she came to sit next to him. “Where did you go? You never said.”

“Yeah, I guess,” he said with a shrug as they cut across the street and headed for the apartment building. “Up on the plates it’s always busy, even late at night…”

“All the Mako makes it the city that never sleeps.” She climbed up the stairs to her apartment, opening it to let the pair of them inside. Smiling she waved him toward the bed. “Would you like something to drink.”

He shrugged as he looked around, taking in the empty streets. “Don’t know. I guess it just… feels strange to not see everyone around.”

“I guess so.” She continued along. “I haven’t really paid attention.” She paused, silent as she considered. Finally she laughed, her hand tightening around his. “I think it’s nice. It’s one of the only times I get some level of quiet.”

Tifa had gotten done with closing Seventh Heaven fairly early, although it was still past eleven. So much for either of them actually having regular sleeping patterns.

“…this place feels different at night.”

Tifa looked over at him curiously as she locked up. “How so?” Other than it was darker, Tifa didn’t see much of a difference. Maybe she had been here for so long that she no longer noticed.

“Sure. Just don’t let me keep you up too late. You need your sleep.” His voice was mostly flat as he said it. Yep, his sense of humor is still awful.

“I’m supposed to say that. You need your sleep just as much.” Especially since he didn’t sleep well enough as it was. Finished up with the dishes she offered her hand to him.

“Ready to go?”

“Yeah,” he finally said, finished with drying the dishes. He glanced at her. “Want me to walk you back?” Not like he wouldn’t anyway, considering the lived in the same building.

She looked up at the offer and smiled at him.

“I would love to have you walk me back.” She dried her hands on another towel before moving to put away the dried dishes. “Would you like to come in for a late night snack? I made some cookies earlier.”
