SURPRISED TO SAY the least, from his chest rose a soft “ah —”, followed by a slight stumble to his step. for the briefest moment he was face to face with everything that had happened — especially with ruby by their side. she had become the inspiration he needed in times when the shadows seemed endless, been the friend they all needed when trust was all but lost. he was grateful, eternally so, but no words could justify how this simple gesture had put into perspective how he valued their bond. instead, he returned the embrace, a genuine smile lighting up his features as his head rested against hers.
