hi everyone! i'm mel (she/her, 25+) and i'm so excited to have juwon interact with you all. she's a fairly new muse so bear with me as i figure her out as i go. i don't have much for her profile yet so this tldr under the cut will have to make do for now! i should mention, she's suffering from amnesia : ) ie, she doesn't remember anything and anyone except her name. she's been at the school for about three years tho (first 6 months spent in isolation, recuperating) there's some plot ideas stewing around the end if you're up for it! please like this post to plot in general and for the event as well! i'll come running to your dms begging < 3 trigger warning: fire, massive casualty, and suicide ideation.

she grew up in a vibrant and loving coven deep in the countryside where a river runs through a forest. most of her coven wield some form of water or earth magic. it was raining heavily when juwon was born and the elders of the village notices the rain shifting based on the volume of her cries. kind of regarded as a prodigy in the village as she manifested her unique ability at a young age and often played tricks on others when it rains.

juwon loved the rain. and it just so happens that it rains a lot where she lived so she'd had a lot of practice controlling the rain from a small scale such as its whirl and speed to a bigger scale such as causing a minor flood in their village. she has a carefree nature and a positive outlook in life. it's known that she can control the rain with her emotions but only when she's overcome by it.

she met her familiar early on as well, meeting in their teens by chance. she and her familiar bonded rather quickly and was inseparable. her familiar became her eyes, the source of freedom that she craved beyond the mist.

juwon left for seoul with her familiar once she was old enough and managed to get by with the help of her parents. she would visit as much as she could but her village was a couple hours out of the big city and travelling each weekend wasn't feasible so she relied on her familiar to fly back and forth to deliver news to and from.

juwon was 25 and was walking home from working a long day at her office job when people pointed out a big cloud of smoke from a great distance. immediately getting a bad feeling, she looked to her familiar to find out the source of the fire while she follows close by.

it was a horrifying sight to see her village razed by a fire, the cause is unknown, no survivors. juwon falls to her knees as first responders fail to take the fire out completely. the clear skies suddenly turn cloudy and rain pours on the village as juwon cries, the same as the day she was born.

at this point, she'd kinda lost all hope. she wandered the streets aimlessly while her familiar couldn't do anything but watch. it was at the point that she wondered if being a live made sense still when there was nothing of hers left. tragedy strikes and juwon almost drowns but her familiar saves her, using all of their strength to do so.

this results in both juwon and her familiar loosing their memories and their memories of each other as well. though they both still feel the bond between them, they're navigating what it means to be in each other's lives again.

it was at this point that led juwon towards the school after being found by some students, washed up by a nearby. juwon spends the first six months at the school recuperating and trying to pull anything from her memory but to no avail.

the students/teacher who found her washed up in the nearby lake?river? idk where exactly but let magic lead the way.

someone who is really nice and decided to visit her while she was recuperating to try and make friends omg that would be so cute

casual victim of being rained on caused by her not being able to control her magic at times. back to basics, friends. on the same note, witches who have the same or similar magic source. someone for juwon to bond with or look up to!

on the same vein, someone who's offered to tutor her on spell casting and ritual performance. she's pretty good at potion crafting because it involves liquids and she likes the math that comes with it.

someone who has a crush on her idk ? takane no hana-esque, someone allured by her #mysterious vibes

she's quite forgetful so perhaps, your muse has acquired a great deal of her stuff for some reason and it's getting out of hand that they decide to confront her.

someone to sit with her comfortably and in silence, it would be nice to set the ambiance while it's raining and juwon can show you how she can make water animals ahhh

thinking about what happened during the hunt brought a somewhat melancholic smile to juwon's lips. she kept her eyes locked on hyunwoo even when he wasn't looking at her, her gaze scanned his features. her chest felt heavy each time she saw him worried. it was the same during the hunt and the moment they got separated.

she was looking down on their hands as she listened to him speak, nodding at his careful words. juwon played with his fingers, turning his hand up to trace the lines on his palm. she doesn't know if the gesture will bring him comfort but juwon does it nonetheless.

"i'll share with you whatever we find," she said, now drawing shapes on his palm. "but maybe next time you'll join me in the archives?"

as anxious as hyunwoo gets when she isn't in her line of sight, juwon feels the same whenever she's facing something that makes her nervous or scared. she believes she just hides it better.

if she were to be completely honest, she feared looking into their past. there was a sense that tells her that she should just move on with her life, build a stronger bond with hyunwoo regardless of what they've lost. but there was also a part of her that wants to know, wants to satiate her curiosity.

she was trying to comfort hyunwoo but holding his hand brings comfort in her too. it makes her never want to let go.

"what should we get for lunch?" she mumbled, almost absentmindedly.

at this hour, the archive had a particular feel to it, a specific stillness that only existed in the last stretch before dawn, when the night had mostly ended and the day hadn't yet begun. jiho moved through it the way he always did, one hand trailing along a shelf, the other maintaining a very low flame on his palm, just enough to make letters distinct from the shadows around them.

he heard her at the entrance before he saw her. "over here," he didn't need to raise his voice, the archive carried sound in ways that still surprised people and made his way toward the far table, the one he used when he wanted space to spread things out.

"sit," simply an offer, not an order. he did the same, closing his palm to silence the flame and carefully opening the book he had retrieved earlier to a page he knew by heart at this point. "i found this three days ago." he turned it toward her. at first glance, it looked like a map. quite old and imprecise, with coastlines drawn loosely and landmarks placed randomly. however, it wasn't only a map. whoever had drawn it had added a second layer of information into it, seen in the weight of certain lines, the placement of said landmarks, the way rivers and lakes were drawn slightly wrong in specific locations that corresponded to nothing at all. it was hiding something in plain sight.

"i want to know if any of this looks familiar to you." he didn't point at anything specific, not wanting to lead her somewhere before she'd had the chance to form thoughts of her own. he wanted a raw answer, even if that answer was nothing. "sometimes it's just an instinct, a pull toward something you can't explain." he settled back. "take your time."

when juwon approached the professor, she didn’t think he would be so eager to help her. she had been at the school for a few years now but her attempts at remembering her past had always been futile. in worst cases, remembering had given her the worst migraines possible, as if her own body was deterring her from sorting through her. while she promised hyunwoo that she won’t do any digging on her own, there was still a part of her that was curious. a part that questioned her history, her power, how she developed her bond.

amongst the faculty helping her was professor kang. since he was an archivist, juwon thought he might be able to help her trace anything back to her family through her ancestry. but with limited knowledge (and memories), it has proved to be a very slow process.

the archives smelled of old books, decades and even centuries of histories all tightly wound and leather bound. it was only her third time here at the archives but it already felt somewhat comforting. she heard the professor’s voice call out from the inside and she followed the sound of where she thought he may be.

“good evening sir,” she greeted, taking his offer to sit and watched him unveil a new book in front of her. the last two sessions they had had led them to dead ends and she wouldn’t be surprised if tonight ended the same. she peered at the book closer, leaning forward to see its details. the map was confusing. she could tell that it was an old map of seoul and its surrounding cities, but no landmarks that make any sense. juwon shook her head, signalling to jiho that she didn’t feel anything.

juwon continued looking at the map, surveying each and every line drawn on it. she was about to lean back when a river crossing caught her attention. she reached out to touch it’s intersecting lines. “wait,” she said, further examining the line on the map. it wasn’t familiar at all. there were no memories that pop up, no recollection of anything that stood out. and yet…

“i might be wrong but, isn’t this two rivers meeting right here?”

there was a heavy feeling on her chest.

juwon's eyes shot open but she quickly closed them again. there was sliver of light coming from the window, the curtains not fully drawn closed, that blinded her momentarily. she moved to cover her eyes but found her arms pinned to the bed by hyunwoo's. the heavy feeling on her chest suddenly making sense.

they must've passed out after last night's events. she could still feel the forest on her skin, her clothes. she would definitely need to do laundry once they're both up. careful not to wake hyunwoo, juwon rolled out bed as slowly and as quietly as possible. even letting herself fall on the floor with a soft thud. she peeked her head to find hyunwoo still sleeping soundly before turning around to face the rest of the dorm.

what she didn't expect to find is eunjae already awake and even more so, wearing sunglasses inside. juwon furrowed her brows but didn't point it out. she looked at the time on her bedside table, too early for anyone to really be up especially after such a listless night. juwon approached eunjae then, careful not to startle her.

she spoke softly, "morning, i didn't expect to see you awake already." juwon shuffled past her to take a peek at herself in their shared bathroom, her eyes widening to see herself so disheveled. "last night didn't go at all according to plan...i'm guessing the same for you?"

(...) "sorry-" he starts, shoulder hunching forward a little bit more as he glances at her "can you repeat that?" hyunwoo asks, head tipping to the side as he looks at juwon, brows furrowed. "i was listening i swear-" it's a lie, they both know it but he hopes she doesn't point it out. it takes him a few seconds to decide what to do with the hoodie he was holding in his hands, before finally dropping it on the edge of the bed and taking a seat. his leg bounces as he looks at juwon, giving her his full attention. "you were saying." he feels a bit bad, having to stop multi tasking something easy just to listen to her.

there were parts of juwon's body that still hurt after all. she thought that while the bruises were healing that she'd be able to move around normally now but, she wasn't exactly ready to fight physically like that as she did three days ago. she tried not to let it show, not to worry hyunwoo further.

but her lips twitched slightly, wincing as she moved her arms a bit too quickly while putting away a set of shirts. cutting the stream of her thoughts for only a moment, hoping hyunwoo didn't take note, and continued talking.

"so i'll probably be searching through the archives again later this week," juwon said, a faint smell of detergent and jasmine that wafted through the air as she walked back to the bed where the clean clothes piled up.

"i was hoping professor kang has found something and maybe you..." she glanced at hyunwoo momentarily, noting the way his hands moved robotically, his eyes distant. juwon's thoughts completely left her then and was replaced with nothing but the hyunwoo in front of her.

she smiled at his apology, showed that she understood. juwon hovered over her pile of clothes for a bit before eventually taking a step closer to where hyunwoo was sitting. she placed the pants she was holding on its specific pile and didn't continue talking until she sat beside hyunwoo, knees pointing towards him. juwon placed a hand on his leg, not to stop it from shaking, but to show him that she was there and she was safe. they were both safe. her smile didn't falter once as she continued to talking, her tone with a bit more pep.

"i was saying that maybe we can find out something this time around. i know we said we won't force any memories to come back to us," she said, her other hand reaching out for his out of habit now. "but it doesn't hurt for us to do some digging either."

the vast forest surrounding the school is definitely nayoung's favorite place to be. in the time she's been at the school, she'd be willing to bet she's spent more time out here than she's spent in her room. there's something freeing about it, especially on moonlit nights.

when she didn't find juwon in their room, nayoung didn't have to think twice about where she might find the older. not that she necessarily needs juwon for anything, no — the simple truth is that nayoung is just bored, and juwon seems like the perfect target for her attention on this particular day.

while not very close in age, nayoung finds that she enjoys juwon's company, seeks it out even — proven by her current stroll through the forest, towards the boulder she knows she'll find her roommate at. the main thing they have in common, she finds, is their love for the forest. which, in nayoung's eyes, is practically enough to make them best friends.

and, sure enough, as she enters the small clearing holding the boulder, leaves rustling as she pushes some branches out of the way, her gaze immediately rests on exactly who she was looking for: nam juwon.

the older is speaking, no — chastising her — as soon as nayoung comes into view, and the younger can't help but chuckle. she scrunches her nose as she looks down at her friend.

"oh no, i'm so scared," she says dryly. "well..." she trails off, tilting her head to the side as if pondering. "actually, maybe i should be. with your... erm, skill, you might actually end up turning me into a snail or something." she makes an attempt to sound scared, though the wide grin on her face betrays her.

"so," she starts, sitting down on the boulder next to juwon, "you're practicing your spells? anything i can help with?"

conviction? or is it, perhaps, drive, that juwon ultimately lacks when it comes to spell casting. maybe that's why she enjoys potion crafting the most. you already have what you need in front of you, and if you are missing an ingredient, you just go out and find it.

spell casting involves meaning, and juwon finds it rather hard to do so when all she sometimes feel is lost. it must be why she's taking spell casting with professor ahn for the second time this year. perfecting this spell in time for the hunt could make or break her chance at being useful.

nayoung's reply takes her out of her thoughts and juwon half-heartedly rolls her eyes. she puts down the paper in front of her and wiggles her fingers at the younger, menacingly with a dash of silliness. "oh yes, you should be scared. a lot of dangerous spells out there," she holds back a smile as she attempts to be serious.

she moves a bit to the side to make space for nayoung on the boulder all while flipping through the pages of her notebook, finally coming upon a spell that indeed, turns someone into a snail and showing it to nayoung, like a kid with a toy. "you truly never know what will happen the next time...pft-" she sputters into laughter before it dissipates into a heavy sigh.

"i'm trying to make it rain," she said, flipping back her notebook to the spell she's trying to perfect. juwon then nudges nayoung by the shoulder. "you think you can ask the moon goddess to bless me with something torrential?"

(...) was he staring again? the cigarette hangs unlit between his teeth. he plucks it free with two fingers and clears his throat, then looks down, checking if she took one. "it'll help," he says. "i can show you, if you don't know how."

in another life, juwon might’ve said yes. she might’ve been curious enough to try, or it might've been an act she was already familiar with. she took a cigarette stick out from his hand and examined it in hers. juwon waited for...something. a pull of some sorts, or for the object to trigger a memory.

nothing.

like yesterday, and the day before that, her mind is nothing but empty voids with memories to fill. memories she can't quite grasp. they don't even visit her in her dreams.

she toyed with the stick between her fingers before looking back at donggu to find him staring at her instead. with the cast of the moonlight, his eyes shone bright as she met his eyes. her own gaze faltered, the familiarity striking her and yet nothing came up the surface.

juwon shook her head. "i'm good," she said but made no move to give back the stick. she hesitated before continuing, not sure if she should even broach the topic. "do i look like someone? i always notice you look at me as if...as if we've met before."

the blood moon haunts her. sena would swear on it if her tongue could enunciate the sentiments to her companions. each apprehensive glance upward is rewarded with an eerie sheen in the copper red moon. it isn't nearly red enough, the realization drops like a pin, it's as if its waiting to be fed more.

the forest is no different from the the ones in hanno. dirt is dirt. but magic—magic is alive. magic permeates, parts metal and parts earth (blood. blood and dirt. dirt and blood. always and forevermore in that order.)—so much so that each step runs her lungs haggard and blood pounding against her sternum. magic, in a startlingly abundance that floods her mind to the point that she's unable to think; nails pressing into the heart of her palm till her vision blurs and clears.

earlier's elation has come and gone. in its place is monster discombobulated, thirteen limbs and four sets of eyes, it crawls past the unwilling small of her mouth and down her throat—straight to bottom of her gut. "we should," sena starts despite herself, giving pause at a faint chime of the bell. must be the wind. "split up, i think." she gestures vaguely, eyes roving from face to face. it is the best way to cover more ground.

"eunho can search from the skies." she points up, finger giving a little lighthearted twirl. funny, the ease in which she takes to ordering around a familiar she had renounced all but a week or so ago. "what about... yours?" her attention flitters over to juwon and her companion, blinking slow. sena realizes she doesn't even know the form (nor name) of her familiar—never bothered to ask, more like—though, even that doesn't matter at the end of the day.

the forest was a place juwon would go to for solace. a place of quiet whenever she needed to concentrate on spell casting, a place of peace when she needed a breather from the overwhelm of witches and familiars milling about the school. the vast expanse of trees provided shade from the hot sun, and lush greenery created a perfect place to sit in and relax.

but tonight, the forest was a hunting ground. as the blood moon cast a red hue amongst the trees, its shadows grew darker and more sinister — as if the danger lurks the moment you turn around. she remembered to drink the protective potion before heading inside the forest, remembered giving one to hyunwoo too as they joined their group. juwon patted the small bag around her waist, more potions — protective and healing ones — that they can use if they ever needed it.

juwon hoped they wouldn't.

split up, sena said. juwon didn't think it was a good idea but she looked to the skies as sena pointed up. they can cover more ground if they do so. the redretch could be right under their noses and it could slip past them, another group could claim victory or worse, it could go on a rampage. in the end, juwon nods.

"alright," she said, a bit apprehensively. "i can cast my spell here. it'll cover the blood moon for a moment, enough to make it rain, and then i could use it to detect the redretch."

juwon has been spending the past week or so perfecting her spell. it worked...no where near perfect but it worked. she has to be confident it'll work today.

"once we're split up and i feel its presence," juwon turned to her familiar, his presence behind her giving her the push of courage she needed. "i can give a signal to eunho from above and hyunwoo can run and inform you, sena. you can trust his border collie legs to reach you as soon as possible." she returned her gaze to the group. "does that work for everyone?"

(...) what's that? he wants to ask, but he can't stop scratching his palms and cracking his knuckles. there's a restless rat running around his heart. there are a few ways to put it to sleep before it starts eating through his ribs. "do you smoke?" he asks, voice scratchy from trying to sleep. he clears his throat and glances hopefully towards the door.

the notebook on her lap have seen better days. there were scribbles all over the page, a sign of juwon's trial and error one too many times. if it weren't the right wording, or even the right feeling, the spell would be off and wouldn't work. she'd been sitting at this for weeks now, in preparation for the hunt. all so that she could at least be useful.

there were times that this feeling of helplessness would weigh down on her mind. as if it was something that always plagued her thoughts. she wouldn't know anyways, she hasn't bothered finding out.

three years spent at the school and she hasn't recollected one memory, hasn't remembered a single thing from her past. but there were times when the fog would clear, when the sense of deja vu overcame her. that's why she kepts a lot of notebooks lying around. not just for class but to remember. at least if it was in writing, she can look back to it and remember.

she looked out the window to where the moonlight spread its light, at the quiet field, and the forest beyond it. she wanted to keep trying, but tonight must not be the best time. she looked over at donggu who seemed restless in his seat and as she was about to ask if he was okay, he spoke first.

"i don't-" she hesitated, then a beat later said, "at least i don't think so."

she didn't know. she didn't remember. juwon closed her notebook, spell casting practice done for the night.

"but if you want to go outside, i can join you," she offered, already standing up. she zipped up the hoodie she was already wearing and put the hood over her head. "a lap or two would be a good way to stretch."

a walk would be good to put her mind at ease, she hoped it would be the same for donggu with eunjae not being around for the night.

juwon could recall the tension in the air three years ago. the night of the blood moon was something the staff and students look forward to, all to hunt the redretch and keep it from wreaking havoc. juwon remembers the excitement and apprehension as she watched from her comfortable seat at the nurse's office. she didn't get to participate in the hunt then, granted she was still recuperating from her supposed injuries. although the injury presented itself as more internal, with her mind wiped of the memories of the last twenty-five years.

but this year would be different, juwon was preparing. she was getting ready to participate, a way to finally test what she's been working on for months. but she has yet to perfect it.

juwon sits by the window of their dorm room, the moonlight casting shadows to their otherwise dark space. the rest of her roommates were sleeping and although her familiar was lying on her bed, she knew he was half-asleep, half-listening to her movements.

so when she felt a presence beside her, she had half the thought that it was her familiar finally joining her. upon looking up from her notebook of spells, she was surprised to see donggu instead.

"oh, have a seat," she said, pointing at the chair beside hers. "can't sleep too?"

despite all the things that she couldn't remember, juwon knows one thing. spell casting and ritual performance really isn't her strongest suit. as much as nayoung's been helping her with ritual performance classes, her spell casting could use some more paying attention to. she much rather sit with her cauldron and trial and error with her mixture. at least that, it's within her control. she's been hellbent on finding some sort of solution to her discontent of not being useful.

the feeling left some kind of bitter taste in her tongue that she was sure was familiar to her in her limited memories. there were still so many gaps, so many empty spaces where a memory, no matter how recent or distant, should've been and yet only a void of nothingness fills it in. juwon stares at the notes she took during spell casting class.

she's sitting on a mossy boulder, one of her favourite spots in the vast forest that neighbours the school. it was one of her more usual hiding spots, if you could call it that, where she thinks no one would find her. just because it was out of the usual trails, doesn't mean she's completely invisible.

oh..invisibility...maybe she could craft a potion for that instead of learning the spell. juwon sighs and held up the paper in front of her, muttering the spell's phrase with no conviction whatsoever.

she startles when the leaves to her right rustles and gave way to a now familiar face.

"you could've called out to me or said something first, nayoung. i thought i would have to use a spell," juwon says although she knows that nayoung knows her spell casting efforts would be futile.
