Specialist Pathway Project: 3 Character Designs (Re-submission).
I wanted to revisit my earlier submission as my designs had been rather uninteresting and the final renders had been left unfinished.Ā
I began by polishing my tankās (picture 1) final render, just to add some extra detail and fix some of the blurring in the piece.
Picture 2 is a redesign of my earlier support design that wielded a pipe. I decided to use a Japanese incense burner as my starting point for the concept. To stay with Japanese themes and folklore I felt that an incense burner was more identifiable as a Japanese symbol rather than a pipe, then of course the character wears a kimono-inspired dress to further solidify the concept. The characterās most identifiable features are of course the fact that the smoke from the incense can be morphed into different things (such as two muscular arms, in this case).
Picture 3 is a redesign of my assassin character. This character also went through multiple iterations before I came to the decision to base it off of aĀ āJorogumoā (a Japanese spider yokai/demon, that can shape-shift into a beautiful woman). I took inspiration from traditional Japanese Geisha to emphasise the importance of beauty in this character. I initially approached the character like a traditional assassin, focusing on creating silhouettes that emphasise movement and speed. However I felt like a lot of the characters lacked identity and wanted to focus on a more simple and clear design/colour scheme.Ā
