Protests in Minnesota after police shooting of Daunte Wright
Hundreds of people protested Sunday night after a Black man in Minnesota was shot by a police officer and died following a traffic stop.
The shooting happened Sunday afternoon in Brooklyn Center, a Minneapolis suburb of about 30,000 people. The city is about 10 miles from where former police officer Derek Chauvin is on trial for the killing of another Black man, George Floyd
Around 2 p.m. local time (3 p.m. ET), police said they were trying to take a man into custody after learning during a traffic stop that he had outstanding warrants.
The man got back into his vehicle, and an officer shot him, police said. The man then drove several blocks before striking another vehicle, police said.Brooklyn Center Police Chief Tim Gannon said police and medical personnel attempted life-saving measures following the crash, but the man died at the scene.
Protesters gathered Sunday evening and marched toward the police department, leading to what the cityās mayor described as āgrowing civil unrest.ā Aerial footage from showed several police cars around the Brooklyn Center crash site swarmed by crowds.
The state deployed the Minnesota National Guard, and Brooklyn Center Mayor Mike Elliott issued a curfew until 6 a.m. Monday (7 a.m. ET).
Wrightās mother, Katie Wright, told her 20-year-old son called her as he was getting pulled over.āHe said they pulled him over because he had air fresheners hanging from the rearview mirror,ā the mother said, crying.
āA minute later, I called and his girlfriend answered, which was the passenger in the car, and said that heād been shot.āāHe didnāt deserve to be shot and killed like this,ā Wright said.

okay, you guys know i never engage in online discourse unless I really think itās important to say. but iām sick and tired of seeing these pro-AO3 posts that willfully misread what people are annoyed about. people are not unaware or annoyed about the fact that websites cost money to maintain. people are not unaware or annoyed about the fact that websites that do not run ads must ask for donations. instead, here is a short list of the many things people are annoyed about: Ā
ā the fact that thousands of people are choosing to donate to AO3 instead of any of the very desperate causes that are currently going on, and that many of these are the same people who pay lip service to caring about these causes Ā Ā
ā the fact that AO3 asks for money to maintain its website and yet has been in Beta mode for 12 years, as well as failing to meet many of the very important requests by users Ā Ā
ā the fact that people are saying āwell its better than anywhere else sweaty (:ā as though AO3 cannot be criticized as long as it is marginally better than the next best option Ā Ā
āthe fact that AO3 has received over 5 times the amount of money it requested and yet has not announced plans to redistribute the extra Ā Ā
āthe fact that thousands of people decided to donate to a website that systematically fails to address the racist content and child pornography it hosts Ā Ā
āthe fact that AO3 and the OTW as a whole have shown time and time again that they do not care about fans of colour, and that fans of colour who speak up about this are accused of promoting censorship for wanting to be respected Ā Ā the fact that by their own admission, it took them years of receiving requests to even begin working on a block feature Ā Ā
the racism and the child pornography holy shit you supercilious assholes people know things cost money but they get annoyed when that money goes to excusing godawful shit
nerds.
publicly posting romantic tubbo/tommy/ranboo x readers gives ADULTS access to shipping content like that. i don't care if you're a minor, it's weird.

How did I not hear about France banning hijabs? Whatās going on?
long story short, thereās legislation in the process of being passed that would
ban girls under 18 from wearing any form of religious head covering in public, and although itās obviously aimed at muslim women, it would also affect other faith groups that practice similar forms of modest dress
ban islamic swimwear in schools and public (there is already a modest swimwear ban in place at public beaches, this just extends it)
ban mothers wearing hijab from entering schools or participating in school field trips or extra curriculars
ban the slaughter of halal poultry - the cheapest and most easily accessible form of meat protein for the muslim community
extend school hijab bans to universities
prevent muslim women from choosing healthcare providers based on gender (which many muslim women prefer to do, since many exams require removal of clothing, etc)
ban muslim parents from homeschooling
force halal markets to sell pork and alcohol or face closure
ban foreign flags at weddings
What can I do to help? This sounds utterly outrageous and I want to help out in any way I can even though I am just in the US.
hey guys! lots of people are asking how to help, so iām reblogging this again with some more info and resources. please remember that, like i stated before, this is not yet law but in the process of becoming law.
more information is coming out daily, and there are a few corrections and updates to note:
the modest swimwear ban, though it was overturned in 2016 for public beaches, will still affect public pools and schools
the halal ban is not technically a ābanā, but it is still expected to severely impact the industry in a way that could produce similar effects and make halal poultry less affordable and accessible to the communities that rely on it as an affordable staple.
the notion to extend the hijab ban to universities is not yet in effect or being introduced, but many fear it will be the next step
How can you help?
Here are some info posts on how to help. Sources will also be linked at the bottom:
Sources and tips:
source for the insta timeline
how you can help
how to be a better ally to muslim women
how to educate yourself and be an ally + organizations to reach out to
why you should not wear hijab in solidarity
A few tips; talk to muslim women instead of for them - learn about why some women choose to wear it while also learning about why some women choose not to - learn about what hijab means for women and men - donāt limit your support to a few posts, be active - educate yourself about how colonialism, racism, and orientalism plays into this
the hashtags #CantBanUs and #HandsOffMyHijab are trending, but they were created by and for muslim women. spread their stories and give them platform, but donāt occupy their space
Information is constantly changing, so if any fellow Muslims out there have some additional links, updated info, or tips, please feel free to add on
And lastly, please donāt add unnecessary commentary or confrontational dialogue to this post. Reblogs encouraged!
