When you love a girl like me, you love a rosebush filled with thorns and not a whole lot of flowers. I would tell you all the pricks, scratches and drops of blood are worth it, but anyone who took a rose left before I could ask. When you love a girl like me, you love the wailing turmoil of hurricanes and marks of destruction that follow a tornado’s wake. There aren’t really much to do after I rip your innards inside out except utter apologies I know will never soothe your pain. I will write poetry on your palms and draw stars on your cheeks with my fingertips until you fall into the abyss with me. But when earthquakes rattle through my bones in the middle of the night, and sand seeps into my lungs through every breath, you’ll run away. I’ll wake up one day and miss your shadow next to mine, it was me. It’s always me. But in the meantime, I’ll sleep with one eye open tonight.
