The difference between hard and soft vore has nothing to do with whether the prey survives, thats fatal and nonfatal. The difference is specifically in regards to the amount of blood and gore.

If theres biting and chewing and blood, thats hard vore.

If there isn't, its soft.

The same distinction can be applied to digestion, with hard digestion being more graphic and dare i say realistic, whereas soft digestion would be more goopy/melted-buttery.
