Puy-l'Évêque in the Occitanie region of France. The town is picturesquely situated at the neck of a long loop of the Lot river in Quercy on the D811 between Fumel and Cahors, it is at the center of the Cahors wine region.

Born at Berkswell Grange, on November 3, 1933, Peter Jeremy William Huggins (known later as Jeremy Brett), was the son of Lieutenant Colonel Henry William Huggins, DSO, MC, DL (1890–1965), and Elizabeth Edith Cadbury Butler (of the confectionery dynasty).

Best remembered for his portrayal of Sherlock Holmes in the series of films made by Granada Television between 1984 and 1994, Jeremy was educated at Eton College, where he excelled at singing, and was a member of the College choir.

Thereafter, Jeremy was trained by Elsie Fogerty at the Central School of Speech and Drama (then based at the Royal Albert Hall in London), graduating in 1954; though Jeremy’s father demanded he change his name for the sake of family honour, so he took his stage-name from the label of his first suit: Brett & Co.

Jeremy died at his home in Clapham, London, on September 12, 1995. His ashes were given to his family.
