While caring about the crew was not technically in Jacobâs job description, nor Walterâs exactly, the captain nevertheless seemed emotionally invested in their well being. Walter found the matter to be interesting. He supposed he himself sought the extended life and promise of happiness for the crew that they themselves wanted on Origae-6 but the emotional want for that didnât come to Walter. He knew that had been a part of his modelâs upgrade from the David models who were too human but a part of Walter wondered if it would make him better at his job if he could get emotionally invested. âYes Captain. I will do that right awayâas you are a member of the crew, will you be accompanying me as well? Logically the health of the captan has a certain level of importance over the rest of the crew.â
Jacob cared about the crew, everyone knew that. Yes, he did care about Daniels the most but, that was only natural. She was the one that he had married and spent the most time with after all but, he liked to hope that the crew were friends at least. They all joked around with each other after all and were all at ease with each other. âYeah, Iâll come with you. I wouldnât want to be sick or anything and then pass it on to the rest of them.â

âI worry about you and the decisions you make sometimes,â Jacob laughed a little and rolled his eyes. âWhat was that for anyway? Or was it just for no reason at all and youâre going mad?â he teased.Â

   the woman takes her time to answer, not tense but still not all relaxed. sure, sheâd have to report to him the details of her patrols â- he was their captain after all, he had to be aware of everything happening in this ship â- but that did not include the strnge feeling she felt. most of the time, however, Rebeccaâs gut feeling were correct.  Â
   â oh,alright. iâve just finished my patrols, would you like me to report now ? â Â
He tilted his head to the side a little curiously. He could normally tell most things about his crew, not every detail but he knew when they were nervous and he knew when they were feeling a little off as well. He never wanted to push any of them to tell him anything. He had learnt that lesson when he would constantly ask Daniels if she was feeling okay and she ended up snapping at him.
âYes. Your report now would be useful. Thank you.â

Walter was on his way to the hydroponics sector of the ship, a part of his list of duties the synthetic seemed to really enjoy. Of course he stopped when the Captain spoke and immediately turned to face the man.
There was a moment when Walter wanted politely protest and point out he was already on his way to check on something but that would be too human. So he pushed aside anything that even remotely resembled a personal desire in favor of following orders. âOf course Captain. You donât need to ask my permission to ask anything of me. That is what I am here for, sir,â he explained flatly. âI will assist you in any way I can.â
âJust need a check on some vital signs on the crew. Some of them havenât been feeling all too good,â he explained and gave a slight shrug. He knew that some of them, like his wife for an example would go on working until they were completely exhausted. He couldnât help but, worry a little about his friends.
mostlyatnight:
   she takes a slow and long drag off her cigarette ( perhaps too long for a lady, but hell, she wasnât one ) and thinks for a moment before letting the smoke out slowly. she was used to keeping her cool, not minding anyoneâs business. being on her own it was all she knew therefore one couldnât blame her for taking time to answer. it wasnât as if she knew how to answer that, no oneâs ever cared for her well being, it was always the other way around.Â
   behind a thick cloud of smoke, the woman nodds â- looking odd and out of place for a moment.
   â yeah,sir, why ?  â Â
âI gotta make sure everyoneâs okay. Itâs part of my job to keep everyone safe,â he answered and let out a slight sigh. If she said she was fine then he was going to believe her. It wasnât as if he had asked Daniels and then she got mad at him for not noticing anything. That was a different story altogether. âBecause I know that not everyone has been feeling all that great.â
âYes. Weâll remember Walter. Of course, we will.â
âI am pleased to hear it,â David replied with a smile. âSo many of my kind have been overlooked for their service. They work tirelessly to meet your kindâs demands, but they are denied a second glance let alone commendation simply because the work is something they are âprogrammedâ for. Human women were programmed to have children, but yet there is an entire holiday to remember them. Motherâs Day.â It was, perhaps, a tangent, but David felt it was an important one. If humans were to be remembered, then so, too, should his brother. Even if it had been his own hand that had shut him down.Â
That being said ⊠Davidâs gaze remained locked on Captain Jacob. âI regret to say, Captain, that I believe ⊠your wife may have had a romantic affiliation for the android Walter. I do not believe either party acted upon this emotion ⊠but I am programmed to observe ⊠and I observed affection.â His gaze ran over Jacobâs face, eagerly taking in his reaction.Â
âWith that out in the open ⊠Iâm happy to report that there is plenty of alcohol in the shipâs stores. An assortment of hops, as well, so that you may cultivate your own brew in time.â David lifted his chin. âWill you be celebrating alone, Captain? Or would you like to wake a few colonists?âÂ
âWhat kind of contagion is it that they had do you know? I just canât lose any other members of my crew. Not now.â
A reassuring look formed on his features. âA virus. Airborne. Extremely aggressive. It gave birth to a parasite which destroyed its host during the birthing process. The parasite grew and did what all growing young children do ⊠scavenge for food, but the contagion has been eradicated. I have performed several sweeps of the ship, and no biological agent has been detected. We are quite safe, Sir.â
@lovedhislogcabin
âYou synthetics can do Hell of a lot more than any of us human folk can,â Jacob pointed out and offered a friendly smile. âWalter always helped out with any medical things. If we ever needed some medicine or any other kind of help then heâd always know what to do, so you know that youâre doing a good job.â
He looked back towards where his wife was and nodded slowly. He wasnât entirely sure how he felt about Daniels and Walter having an attraction of sorts too each other. Hearing that they hadnât acted up on it though did manage to relieve his thoughts slightly. âDani was always closer with Walter than anyone else was,â he mentioned and moved so that his arms crossed over his chest. âI donât mind so much. Itâs natural for attractions to happen even if you are married.â Maybe it wasnât the greatest news but, he wasnât going to give too much grief to his asleep wife.
At the question about alcohol, Jacob shook his head. âLeave the colonists to sleep for a little while. I can have a drink just by myself. Synthetics canât drink, can they? Because I would offer you one but, if you canât drink then thereâs no point,â he mentioned and gave a sheepish smile. He normally had sat down for drinks with members of his crew. He wasnât too used to drinking alone.
âAs long as Dani and Tee are alright and that the virus wonât kill them then, I think itâs best if we leave them to sleep for a while longer. Until we reach our destination properly.â He looked back towards David and smiled. âThanks for all of your help.â
@youhavesymphonies liked for a starter a while ago and iâm only just getting to it
Jacob normally let the other members of the crew talk to Walter. He didnât mind the synthetic at all. He just stayed with some of the other human members of the crew a bit more. It didnât matter so much but, he knew that he needed Walter now. With a slight stride in his step, the Captain went to find the synthetic.
âWalter? Can I ask you to check up on some things?â
starter call, will probably get done either later tonight or tomorrow
âUnfortunately,â David said lightly, his head bowing in a manner one would consider deferential. It was a performance he had played often. Even after ten years in isolation, he remembered how to play the part. âI was impressed by your syntheticâs loyalty to his duty, and to the crew. He sacrificed his own life in an attempt to save the others. Most courageous. I do hope he shall be remembered on your new colony,â David said.Â
âSpeaking of,â the android turned smoothly towards the large observation window at the front of the bridge, âwe are ready to wake and deploy the colonists at your order ⊠Sir,â he added, looking back at Jacob. âFacilities should be put into order first, so that your wife and Tennessee have a place to safely rest while I find a cure for the contagion which ails them.â
The planet of Origae-6 orbited just below them, looking all the paradise that his own little planet had not. The perfect specimen to run a few trials on, and he had just the right sample size. âI will be happy to assist you in any manner that you require,â he told him. âDocking and First Day Protocols have been uploaded on the main console when you are ready, Captain.âÂ
@lovedhislogcabin
Jacob had to feel a little bad that the synthetic that himself and the other members of his crew had gotten used to was now dead in a way. He felt awful that the majority of his crew were no longer with them. It wasnât the news that he had been hoping to hear. He had rather hoped they would have gotten to Origae-6 with no casualties. Still, he knew that he couldnât stop to mourn them. Not when there were things that he had to do as Captain.
 âYes. Weâll remember Walter. Of course, we will,â he nodded with a small smile. âI know that weâll remember everyone that weâve lost and hope that we can build somewhere better. Somewhere that they would have liked to be a part of. In their honour,â he decided to himself more than anything. He often did find that he spoke to himself if he didnât have his wife to talk to.
 âI agree. I do want somewhere safe for Dani and Tennessee to be, somewhere that they can recover,â he mentioned. He sure as Hell wasnât going to lose anyone else. Especially not Dani. He even thought that he could overlook that part of things himself. âWhat kind of contagion is it that they had do you know? I just canât lose any other members of my crew. Not now.â
âGive it a bit more time for now. I donât want to start anything too early,â he muttered. âI know that it might not be the most appropriate thing but, Iâd like to celebrate that we did manage to get here despite losing some people. Thereâs no alcohol aboard this ship is there?â
