Seeing Tracer fanart

On the outside: SO GOOD!!!!! SO PRECIOUS, YOU DREW HER SO CUTE!!!!!

On the inside: where is her chronal accelerator? I respect artistic liberties, but it's canon that without the device Tracer will lose her physical form and slip in and out of our time-stream for weeks at a time, leaving her unable to eat or interact with any of her surroundings. We see throughout the trailers that Tracer is worried about harm coming to the accelerator, as it's essentially her anchor to this reality. Given this information, why did this artist draw Tracer in only a tanktop? Was it too bulky to draw? Did they forget? Do they know how important it is to Tracer, and how threatening the possibility of chronal disassociation is? Did Winston create a smaller version for non-combat situations, and that is this artist's explanation? If so, why are people still drawing her shirtless, when that would only lead to her slipping into another time-stream while topless? Is there something I don't know, and that is why this fanart is so prevalent? Or am I correct? And if I'm correct, how does Tracer change clothes without taking the chronal accelerator off? How does she shower? Does she run the chance of chronal disassociation every time she attempts personal hygiene? Is she capable of living an ordinary life with the accelerator strapped to her chest at all times, and if so, how?

It had been quite a time in helping Angela and the other current member of the Overwatch team, but on the whole it all had come together well enough. Somehow they managed to surprise the usually astute and attentive Winston on his birthday. It had been a pretty simple affair of getting everyone to pull their lot in setting things up, but it went out without a hitch even if it was a tad cliche with bringing him to a darkened room and having everyone yell surprise as the lights came on as party favors were launched shooting confetti into the air.

The favors were Lena’s idea and one she beamed with pride over as she saw the elated expression on her friends’ face, his mirthful chuckle evident that he was tickled about it. Everyone would naturally sing Happy Birthday to him, albeit a bit differently since everyone came from different parts of the world and all that. This also would serve Angela time to make sure the cake was baked to perfection given it would be loaded with a surprise peanut butter flavored filling.

“Cheers Winston! Happy birthday mate! A whole ‘nother year older and wiser eh?” she would happily proclaim as she gave her comrade in arms a huge hug that would be reciprocated with a gentle pat to her back. She would give one of her usual joyful giggles seeing as all had gone according to plan. Or so it seemed at least. Inwardly she could not help but feel like something was off, but momentarily for the life of her could not figure out what it was. The presents were there and accounted for, the guest of honor was present and the cake was well on its way with Angela bringing it in much to the delight of everyone present.

Yet something felt completely off.

It would take Lena a few moments and a couple of scans over the room to notice one person in particular was missing. Immediately her eyes would widen as she would mentally facepalm realizing that someone who was still quite important and precious not only to the team, but herself as well was not present.  She would look around panicked as she knew she wanted to go and check up on her, but being master of ceremonies she could not simply just leave everyone in the lurch even if things were well under way. She would look to Angela and go to approach her about it, but Angela would notice her look of urgency and would give her a knowing smile and a nod to assure her things would be fine.

“Ahem pardon me everyone there’s something I have to tend to that has come to my attention. I’m so sorry Winston! I’ll be back in two .. erm make that a few shakes of a lamb’s tail! Be back with you all in a bit!” With a bit a nervous squeak behind her voice she would give a somewhat valiant salute to her comrades and friends before they could respond and was gone in a blink of an eye. Normally she wouldn’t use her talents so brazenly, but she knew the sooner she checked up on Amelie the better. And it would take her no time to locate the missing guest and someone who was something of a source of bittersweet happiness to all who knew her and what she was put through.

Immediately she would blink to within Amelie’s peripheral field of vision and from there would approach her slowly as to not accidentally cause her any alarm. The usually outgoing and energetic Englishwoman would give a bit of trepidation to her approach with a meek wave and a much calmer voice as she spoke that belay her own worries as to what could be going on through her mind at the moment.

“Hey love wha’cha doing up here all by your lonesome, hm? Got a load on your mind?” she would continue to amble toward her as she looked for a spot to recline close by her, her eyes looking straight at her as to show her that she was the sole focus of her attention.

   She’d finally more or less tuned out the sounds of revelry and merriment coming from two rooms and one hallway away from herself (a task which got markedly easier after they’d finished singing that nauseating ‘Happy Birthday’ song– and she considers herself quite proud of the fact that she managed to listen to the entire thing without puking even a single time from how saccharine it is), but then… boundless enthusiasm springs into her anti-social corner of brooding and insists upon attempting to make her social.

Lena’s been like this since  Amélie was recovered from Talon, and frankly, she finds it exhausting. Why can’t the over-eager little Brit just treat her with the same sense of mild neglect and distrust that so many of the others approach her with? It would be so much easier.

She gives Lena a single glance over her shoulder, shrugs, and then returns to gazing out the window towards the distant setting sun, arms wrapped around her legs and holding them tight to her chest.

“Mmn. Non,” she responds finally, doing a poor and severely half-assed job of lying. “I do not have a lot on my mind. I just dislike American-style cake, and that… ‘orrible birthday song.” She shudders visibly at the mention of it. “I do not understand how you can all be having such a good time.”

Half truths, of course– she legitimately does find it hard to understand the concept of celebration in her emotionally altered state, though part of her feels as though she should try to learn (or re-learn, as it were). But at the same time, there is indeed a lot on her mind. There always is, and it never quiets itself– not even at night, when the nightmares come to her, ruining the respite sleep might otherwise offer.

“I prefer to be alone,” she continues, plainly and simply. “And I think most of them would also prefer it if I remained alone. I would only ruin your party, and then none of us would be having a good time, n’est-ce pas? You do not need to worry about me.”

Choosing to recline against a nearby wall  close enough to Amelie, but far enough to give her some breathing room for the moment Lena would give something of a halfhearted smile to her in turn toward her rather poor attempt to bluff. There were times that the Brit would be not the most observant, but even she could gather from her body language that she was anything but being truthful about what may be going on in her head. Still she would attempt to humor her in terms of not pointing these observations out.

“That so eh?” she would retort with a tightening in her chest, not wanting to possibly pop off something that may make her even more distant in the long run. She gives a rather mirthful giggle in tern as she cautiously slides over a few steps closer to minimize the gap. “Well we’re livin’ it up because it’s Winston’s birthday, life is something rather meant to be celebrated after all right?”

The comments in regards to disliking cake would cause her usually pert smile to momentarily waver as thoughts in regards to how much Amelie had changed since she was forcibly taken away by Talon and indoctrinated to a point where so much had changed about her inside and out. The Amelie she knew was never this distant nor one to turn down a party when there was one. Just thinking about what they did to her to try and bury who she is at heart would make her own prickle with pain. In spite of that she knew she could not falter here after coming so far after managing to bring her back to the Overwatch team.

“To be honest with you..” she would clear her throat partially as she was unsure if calling her by her name would upset her, but ever the optimist she would brave the risk as she used the moment to steel her nerves. “Amelie dear, most of us would be right chuffed to bits if you would join us. Having you back is a transition for many, but the fact that you’re here means you are wanted. Moreover though I worry since havin’ you back I see you alone a lot. I’m not here to take the piss with you so if something’s on your mind you can tell me.”

    Amélie sighs as she peers out the window of the high rise Overwatch headquarters, looking down to the cars and pedestrians milling about at ground level many floors below her. The sounds of celebration and revelry make a borderline cacophony behind her– apparently, it’s someone’s birthday, and they’re all celebrating in the office with cake, soft drinks, and socialization. The excess of social activity has only made her more withdrawn than normal, forcing her to retreat to her usual corner-side window perch, as she obviously prefers quiet self-reflection to social interaction.

“Mmmn,” she muses, watching a little boy chase after a dog that’s torn its leash from his hands far down below herself. It’s enough to make her inhale sharply through the nose, as if she wants to laugh, but can’t. She knows some part of her finds it amusing– adorable, even– but the Amélie in her is still being choked by the Widowmaker, who refuses to let her forget what she’s become: a monster. “How cute.”

She momentarily remembers how Dr. Ziegler had tried to force her to come into the main conference room to attend the party earlier– ‘socialization will be good for you,’ ‘doctors orders,’ et cetera– but it hardly changes her attitude. She feels far too broken, and has far too minimal of a sense of her former self to feel at all comfortable in such situations. Being alone… it’s better for her.

If only she weren’t so lonely.

“What a lovely evening,” she muses sadly, blinking both eyes shut to squeeze a pair of tears out of them as she sits in her anti-social solitary brooding corner of loneliness, trying to force herself to believe that she is 100% OK when alone. “… what a… lovely evening…”

So, I just got paid today and impulsively bought the Overwatch Collector’s Edition Boxset… but, I had already digitally pre-ordered the game. I tried to resist for MONTHS… though I managed to hold out for so long, MY WILL IS WEAK. That artbook and 76 figure… I caved in.

I don’t want to be spammed with random people solely following me in order to get their hands on the game so I’ll make it exclusive to my RP partners/RP blogs that mutually follow me. I’d rather one of you lovelies have it - I know a few of you have either been on the fence on buying a copy or don’t have the finances to spare, so here is your chance friends!

I will be giving away the Origins Edition code for the PC (Mostly likely throwing in the Noire Widowmaker skin as well. Debating whether or not to make a separate giveaway for that later on) to mutual followers. Again, this is exclusive to mutuals (Meaning we both have to be following each other).

This giveaway was a spur of the moment thing and with the launch just around the corner, I had to get this out there is quickly as possible. So, I will be picking a winner using a random number generator on the 24th, 10:00 PM US Eastern (Due to work that day and to give you guys some more time to enter) - however, I will not physically have the code until the 25th (Unfortunately, it ships on the day of the launch :/).
