Settling in.

After a couple days back in L.A. she was beginning to feel more like her usual self again and was actually beginning to enjoy the whole unpacking process, mostly because it gave her an excuse to throw on her old, comfy jeans and paint the walls of her bedroom, and possibly the bathroom, to match the new decor she’d purchased for her new studio apartment that she was, slowly, beginning to fall in love with. 

A day of shopping always requires a hearty dose of caffeine to get you through and she’d already become a regular at the coffee bar near the end of her street, so it was the logical choice for a quick stop before making the journey across the freeway to Home Depot, opting to make the short walk on foot and return for her car when she was ready to go. Those who knew her well would have noticed the slight skip in her step as she approached the cafe, holding the door open for a woman and her children with a bright smile.

"After you" she sing-songed, stepping aside and waving the trio in ahead of her, only beginning to recognize the blonde as she passed by her. It took a few moments for it to place the familiar face and she was already in line to order her extra large latte when it suddenly dawned on her. "Oh my god" she said outloud, before she could stop herself "Now You See Me! I loved that movie!”

Melanie breathed a sigh of relief when the brunette ahead of her opened the door to the cafe. William had seemed to get distracted along the way and Mai thankfully seemed to fall asleep while the pram was in motion. William certainly wasn't big enough to open doors for his Mum no matter how hard he tried sometimes. Though it was hilarious when he'd jump on the mats in front of automatic doors and beat his chest in triumph that he magically made the doors open. No automatic doors here and sometimes people weren't kind enough to hold doors for her.

"Oh thank you so much!" Melanie's voice rang out with an air of excitement as she wheeled inside. Simple acts of kindness honestly made her day. The thought of buying the woman's drink was rolling about inside her head only to be stopped by the other woman's sudden realisation who she was. Though she wasn't too well known outside of France it still made the blonde beam when she was noticed, especially as herself and not the wife of Tom Hiddleston. 

"Oh my gosh!" She beamed a thousand watt smile and looked quite excited. Then it dawned on her that she knew who the other woman was as well. William loved his superhero shows and had insisted on watching some episodes of Arrow. Some less violent ones of course. "Thank you so much! I think I've seen you as well. This little guy is a big fan of superheros. You're on Arrow aren't you?" Making sure her son was right beside her and not wandering of she held her hand out "Melanie Laurent. Pleasure to meet you."

Stateside.

Tom had honestly tried to help put the kids to bed, but Melanie had said something about him having unpacked all day and ushered him out down the hallway of their new house.  Taking a seat on the couch in the living room he flicked on the TV, cycling through the channels until he found something half decent.  If he listened he could hear the sounds of her reading William a story, and thanks to the monitor that sat on the coffee table in front of him he was soothed by her voice as she sang Mai to sleep.

All of it made him smile, and he feeling quite serene by the time his wife stuck her head around the door.  ”I don’t know, but dashing or not you probably shouldn’t let strange men into your house,” he replied witha grin, beckoning her over to him.  ”Bon soir, darling.  Have they settled down well?” he asked, though he knew the answer, and planted a kiss on her forehead.

"Shouldn't I? I suppose I'll have to inform the God of Mischief he'll have to take some time off ruling Asgard to come protect me from strange dashing men." With her brows raised her lips pulled into that oh so Melanie smile, wider than a mile. Moments like this she treasured these days. Both children, especially Mai, were out like lights within a matter of minutes it seemed. Even when she read to William and he'd doze off in the middle she would finish up the book and kiss his head before sneaking out. It was quiet in the house now, albiet the murmur from the television across the room. Now it was just her and her towering husband and a hopeful quite rest of the evening.

"They're sleeping like the angels they are. I hope William wasn't too much of a bother on you today." It seemed their son was just as curious about the world around them as Tom seemed to be, always running about and getting into things, asking tonnes of questions. Sighing happily she cosied up into his arms. At times being short was a pain in the ass but being cradled in his arms was possibly her most favourite thing in the world. 

Chin now resting on his chest she peered up at him with those big bright eyes of hers. "I vote we open a bottle of that French wine, pull on some comfy pants and snuggle up on that sofa under whatever blanket you can manage to find." On her very tip toes she managed to give him a kiss.

With both children put to bed finally, Melanie was finally able to breath. Trying to take care of a near two year old, a new born and truthfully, a husband that acted like a giant kid was a bit exhausting. That didn't mean she wasn't happy to get a bit of alone time with Tom for the first time in what felt like weeks since they'd packed up their London home. Sneaking quietly down the hallway she peeked her head around the corner of the doorframe.

Eyeing Tom up she smiled brightly at him. "Who is this dashing gentleman I see in my living room?" Slipping around the wall fully she moved to stand behind him, her arms wrapping around his waist as her cheek came to rest on his back. "Bon soir mon ami." tomhiddlestonhere

Settling in.

It had been a rather large decision to uproot their growing family from London back to L.A. A decision that in the end, was deemed rather necessary. Tom had been working on films in the States, and Melanie seemed to be swimming in scripts her agent kept sending her. Moving back to L.A seemed like a logical choice in the end. Thankfully though they'd found quite a lovely neighbourhood just adjacent to the one that her and Tom had previously lived in. 

William surprisingly seemed to start settling in quite well. When told they had to move for Mum and Dad's work he didn't question much. With some of his room unpacked already, Melanie scooped her son up and twirled him around, making him fall into a fit of laughter. The pair of them lay on the floor tickling each other until they were both gasping for air. "Should we leave the rest of this for later? We can go get your sister and find a park to go to. After Mum gets some coffee. Don't think Dad has pulled the espresso machine out of a box yet." 

The boy looked up at her and nodded happily. Giving her son a kiss, Melanie scooped him back up into her arms. Within twenty minutes Mai was in her pram and the trio were on their way towards the coffee shop Melanie had spotted when they were looking for their new house.

What is your full name? Melanie Laurent-Hiddleston

Where and when were you born? Paris, France in 1983

Who are/were your parents? (Know their names, occupations, personalities, etc.) Ma mere est Annick. She was a ballet dancer and now she's a dance instructor. Mon pere est Pierre. He's a voice actor and does the  voice over for Ned Flanders on Les Simpons

Do you have any siblings? What are/were they like? I have a younger brother Mathieu. He's very intelligent and helpful. Especially helping me with my English. He always knows how to get me to laugh even when I'm grumpy.

Where do you live now, and with whom? Describe the place and the person/people. I live with my husband Tom, our little boy William and our baby girl Mai. Recently we've moved from London to L.A which is a big undertaking with small children I've discovered. Getting them settled in should hopefully be easy but it's hard with a toddler taking him from everything he's grown familiar with. He's very bright and silly like his father and always curious about the world around him. Mai's just an infant so she doesn't manage to do much complaining unless she's hungry or wants picked up and held. I don't really know how to explain our home other than slightly chaotic at the moment but to me its just things. Home is where my family is.

What is your occupation? I'm an actress, director and musician!

Mon dieu! Where do I begin with this? I always find describing myself a challenge. I'm quite short actually (5'1) so it's helpful to be married to a frost giant! I'm Jewish as well though I'm not sure thats really part of a physical description...Blonde hair that somehow goes between blonde and brunette from time to time. My eyes are as I think Tom likes to say aqua marine in colour. Very bright and full of life. Bit mischievous as well. There's a small scar under my left eye from when I was eight and crashed my bicycle. Otherwise I have freckles or what ever you call them on my chest and neck.

To which social class do you belong? I'm not really sure? I don't like to classify people. Perhaps thats just the Jewish bit of me shining through.

Do you have any allergies, diseases, or other physical weaknesses? Weaknesses to my kids laughter and my husband's smile counts right?

Are you right- or left-handed? Left handed.

What does your voice sound like? Like this! Very French and like an excited puppy I think. 

What words and/or phrases do you use very frequently? Merde. Mon dieu. Non! Which I hope William hasn't picked up on...

What do you have in your pockets? I'm not Bilbo Baggins! There's noting in my pockets right now.

Do you have any quirks, strange mannerisms, annoying habits, or other defining characteristics? I talk with my hands a lot. And I'm easily excitable which shines through with my eyes and voice. I also tend to switch between English and French quite a bit or I forget words in English and just say them en francaise.

"Maybe I just will.  Though you will have to incubate that one for a while longer," he said with a chuckle.  It quickly turned to a groan as William poked at his cheeks, once again calling him mummy.  "No William, that’s mummy there.  I’m daddy.  Can you say that? Daddy."

"I'll keep that in mind love." Chuckling she watched the exchange between her husband and son. William pouted a bit and gave in already. It was just a game that he and his mum were playing anyway. "Yes Daddy!"

Gasping Melanie looked between William and Tom and put her hand over her chest. “Quoi? I would never.” She gave William a wink and pecked Tom on the cheek. “Well then Mr. Hiddleston, I think you should sit with him and just repeat daddy all day yes?”

He raised an eyebrow at her, making a small grunt that seemed to say ‘oh of course not’.  Sitting down he bounced the toddler on his knees, looking at the boy with concentration.  ”Maybe we will, huh William?  And maybe daddy will get in there first with your sibling, hmm?” he mused, flicking his gaze to his wife’s belly.

"Are you going to hoard all of our children now Tom?" Melanie inquired with a raised brow as she bit into an apple. Back against the counter she smoothed her hand over her small protruding belly. William stared up at his father and giggled a bit. "Mummy!" He shouted and squished Tom's face between his hands.

Swooping into the room with William on his hip he came to a standstill in front of the blonde, scowling at her playfully.  ”Mrs. Hiddleston, have you been teaching our son to only say mummy?  He’s refusing to call me anything else.”
