Not to be introspective on main but as much as I love so much of what this blog has been for me, there is something genuinely borderline traumatic about becoming #popular online as a 16 year old and then coming into young adulthood and my twenties on such a public platform where every lesson Ive learned, mistake I've made, and even revelations about such deeply personal things like my sexuality and gender and mental health have happened in front of tens of thousands of people who ultimately can never fully conceptualize me as real person deserving of empathy or compassion and it may be years before I fully unpack how that affected me and I worry every day about other children growing up in similar spotlights

I don't regret who I am now, but if I could do it again I think Id just learn to embroider or something instead.

If you are a kid or a teen or young adult right now my advice to you is to spend more time creating. Of course you should interact and share what you make if it pleases you, but be sure to be making, always exploring and creating.

I don't care if it's embroidery or baking or poetry or music or drawings or paper mache or knitting or leaf&crayon rubbings or if it's amazing or good or mediocre,

Just be sure to be making things and don't seek happiness in the approval of strangers online.

My advice to you is to develop a sense of self completely separate from an online identity.

Once those things get tangled up, it's hard to untie.

frankly? ban all plastics. require all public buildings to be solar powered. public community gardens in every neighborhood. ban all pesticides. ban fossil fuels. put wind turbines on every sky scraper. gardens on every rooftop. tax cars and fund public transportation. build bike lanes across every city. train/railroad infrastructure across the country (tear down highways). every state mandated to have a certain percentage of land be a wildlife preserve. local/organic farms get huge tax breaks. raise the minimum wage. aquaponics farms in every city. every family has chickens in their backyard. community composting. jeff bezos’s body for fertilizer. i have a clear idea of what i want the world to look like and i want it now. hire me

Ban all plastics.

Sorry people who need glasses to drive, you have to go back to glass lenses, which are much heavier and dangerous to your eyes if you fall. And no more contact lenses either.

Sorry people who need a heart stent or an artificial valve. You get to, well, die

Need an artificial hip or knee? Nope.

Need surgery? Your survival chances just dropped significantly because your surgeon no longer has disposable gloves, etc.

Need a vaccine? Well, let’s see, we can…we can use a washable glass syringe, sure, and you’ll catch whatever the last person had. What about that insulin you need to not die unpleasantly? It just got even harder to obtain and deal with. Your blood glucose meter is now much more expensive.

Need an MRI? Nope, we had to stop doing those because we couldn’t use any tools near them.

Need a prosthetic? Here’s your hook.

Better keep your meds well away from the kids, because they no longer have childproof tops on them.

If we ban all plastics people will die.

What we need is to create plastics that don’t have the environmental issues. Reduce unnecessary use of plastic sure, but not all use of plastic is unnecessary.

You need to think through your absolutes. We all do. Even banning plastic straws is horribly ableist.

dear Americans very concerned and angry about the concentration camps your government is running:

you should be angry, you should be furious, you should do everything and anything you can to shut them down.

but here in Australia, we've had concentration camps for refugees for nearly 25 years. we've protested and petitioned and yelled, but the government was 'clever' and put them offshore, away from the mainland where we can't reach them, can't storm them. then they banned journalists from going. then they banned doctors.

the only time mainstream news tends to report on the "offshore detention centres" is when yet another group of children try to commit suicide.

yes, the Australian government has concentration camps for people fleeing warzones, and the people in those camps are tortured so bad that the children try to kill themselves.

Americans, I hope you manage to close your governments camps, by law or by force. maybe when you're done, you can turn your attention to us? we could use some loud international outrage from a western ally, the government might care. the public has spent 20 years trying and failing.

non-Australians, please spread this information. I don't think many people know internationally, except the island nations we pay to host our camps and keep quiet.

This actually could have been a reality. If there had just a little difference in how the past played out, whites could have been the ones in servitude instead.
