Is it controversial for me as a black woman to say I don’t support the BLM movement anymore??

I think in the last few years the movement has been focused on fighting for one group of people within our community and disguising it as fight for all of us.

I’m going to be very honest. I’m incredibly frustrated at the “black men are dying more than anyone at the hands of white supremacy” “our black sons are being targeted” talking points and using it as an excuse to not talk about the hundreds or black trans women being murdered and abused in house and by the police, the hundreds of black women and girls being kidnapped murdered and abused in house and by the police in addition to medical spaces.

Instead of fighting for all of us and working to combat white supremacy, it’s turned into only making ordinary black men and boys who’s lives were taking and treated without human decency into martyrs. Maybe I’m sounding mean, the movement was cute at first but I’m still shocked and angry from summer 2020 seeing and hearing the way the community, the movement and it’s followers see and disregard black women, black trans women and black LGBTQ+. Doesn’t really seem beneficial anymore no matter how much y’all try and spin it at the end of the day…

As a black man I will not lie and say this does not hurt, a black woman not caring about a movement meant to bring to light the injustice done to my fellow black men.

Nonetheless everyone is entitled to what they choose to feel and believe. Keep in mind that BLM came to be bcs there was simply no campaign or movement shining light to the injustices caused to black men especially by police. Yes black women and black LGBTQ+ members were and are still treated terribly by law enforcement but most other oppressed groups already have a movement catering for them or at least a group of people acknowledging their plight. Black men had nothing until BLM became a thing, I urge that we don't take this away from our black men, myself included. There are LGBTQ+ movements, feminist movements, and many others directly tailored at other oppressed groups. I urge we include other groups in BLM but let us not forget the initial reason for the inception of BLM - to shine light on the injustices caused to black people in general at the hands of law enforcement. TAKE ALL OF THIS WITH A GRAIN OF SALT.

One question though, why should blindly support a movement that doesn’t support and actively neglects black women, black lgbtq+ and black disabled people??? That’s the main focus of this post, not you trying to guilt black women into only protesting for you… cause that literally summarise everything you wrote. You completely pushed aside the main issue of this post and made it about yourself. Yall do this every time. Yall did this all summer 2020. Yall did it when Breanna Taylor was murdered by police. Yall did it when Oluwatoyin was raped and murder by a black man when coming from a BLM protest. Yall did to the countless number of black trans women who were murdered that summer. Yall do this ever single time.

If the roles where reversed… black women are being murdered by the police at high rates, the community creates a movement for all of us but is always centred around black women, the community makes an deliberate effort to continuously tell black men and boys to support black women and girls always cause “our mothers and daughters are dying”, you support black women and girls fiercely, religious and faithful… to the point that you neglect your self and your own issues cause “ a fight for black women is a fight for all of us” when historically, that has never been the case. You’ve needed the rest of the community to come together for YOU for YEARS but black women continuously push your worries to the side and guilt you into believing your rightful position is on the frontlines, guns pointed to your head, posters in hand , protesting for people who don’t even acknowledge you on an average day…. tell me, would you continue fighting for them??
