No I see your point!! I do think people have become a lot more entitled when it comes to fanfic. I’m in a lot of fandoms and lately I’ve seen a lot more demanding/rudeness overall to the authors. It’s sad tbh.

thank you!! it’s definitely not just a hr thing (it’s just that i saw it come from them but it’s really happening in a lot of fandoms) and same i jump between fandoms a lot and it’s becoming a big issue everywhere. it’s even worse with the rise of ai/chatgpt because people are undermining actual authors with their ai slop all over ao3. fandoms used to be sacred and a safe space and now it’s just like, what’s the point?

also another thing i hate is journalists literally linking people’s fics in articles and publishing them like what… that’s genuinely terrifying like i’m not ashamed of my works but something like that just opens authors up to abuse. so like i mentioned in my first post, it’s not really hr related at all but with the way that show blew up, we really ruined fandoms as a whole

okay buckle up ! fun fact, you’ll notice that for the most part, it’s not about hr itself

first off, i didn’t actually hate hr when it came out, i watched the show and i found it… fine, i wasn’t obsessed and i didn’t hate it, it just wasn’t for me and that’s okay BUT

- the fans oh my god, not so much tumblr because people know how to be normal but i’m on twitter a lot and the stans over there are um. how do i put this? insane like literally kill yourself if you hate hr levels of insane and what the hell maybe i’m too old but personally if someone doesn’t like something that i do… i just move on? it doesn’t really impact my life that much

- hr fans, again, mostly on twitter, have destroyed fandom etiquette— especially fanfic writers, i’ve seen multiple people complaining about hr fans being demanding in their comments or being rude like just because your show is popular and you want something it doesn’t mean you get to harass people but yeah i’ve been in fandoms a LONG time and it’s never been this bad

- now onto the real kicker, it’s popular and yeah i know that doesn’t make sense but hear me out, i have so much love for queer media and i love engaging with it but wlw media SUFFERS at the hands of mlm media because that’s all people make popular, people go mad for something like hr and mediocre mlm content but let wlw collect dust and die a lonely death and that’s what makes me upset and angry. i don’t think hr is a perfect show, sorry to say, but people ate it up and i’ve seen wlw shows just disappear after a season because nobody engages with it and that’s where a lot of my anger stems from i guess

long story short, i didn’t care when it first came out but everything after kind of left a bitter taste in my mouth like i just do not care about that show anymore & i’m sorry if any of this came off rude, i tried to just focus on what i personally don’t like instead of just being a bitch but i hope this helps and please do NOT take my opinions personally, this is just how i feel— if you like it, love it, then do, i’m just one person 🫶🏻

i think my issue with this season is chasing dreams (last season) actually got quite a few things right and felt like a significant improvement on earlier seasons but this season just seems like they’ve taken a step backward (too many love interests obsessed with you, the drama seemingly start to overshadow everything, it just feels more ragebait-y than last season did) and last season wasn’t perfect, it definitely had its downfalls but this one just feels as a whole, worse
