Since my Dad works at an Art gallery, he has been putting me on to incredible works of art. The one I felt like sharing with ya‘ll is from Richard Mosse - Incoming and the Castle.
What you see in those photographs are migrants from all over the world, mostly coming to the EU and some (I think, not sure if it’s depicted in those photographs) to the US. Richard used a military grade camera, which is used to identify targets during the night.
Considering the absolute insane political climate we find ourselves in, those pictures shocked me to the core. For one, I am a refugee myself, so this hits close to home. Secondly, this is what I feel like most people nowadays have chosen to be there dominant perspective on humans seeking shelter, safety, a better life for their loved ones and family. These individuals, who have chosen to see the world through a lens like that; removed their own retina in exchange for a military grade camera lens, only that humans become objectified targets, stripped of their own humanity.
In times like this make sure to stand in front of injustice and repression.
Make sure, your heart works and show compassion, empathy and love towards the oppressed,
make sure your hands still are able to feel, touch and open, if that’s the case give a hand,
make sure your lips still speak, shout and screaming that’s the case be loud,
make sure your feet can still walk and move, if that’s the case go out there and protest.
But most importantly make sure that your eyes work and see the world through your own retina not through a military grade camera lens.
See the world for what it truly is,
Yours truly
