5 Recommendations to Top Management
It was extraordinarily difficult to come up with ways for the team to improve, but after a long evaluation, these are my top 5 recommendations I would make to top management. Take into consideration they are making more calls over the coach.
1. What: The team needs to have a youthful rebuild. Why? Prime examples such as the dodgers, astros, Red Sox, Yankees and cubs have shown dominance in youthful developing clubs.
2. What. Giants need to solidify their bullpen. Why? Simple, weak bullpens leads to a defeated team. This is likely why the even year winning streak died in 2016 because they never found their closer solution. This needs to be done before or at the beginning of spring training to make form a solidified bullpen.
3. What: Develop a better prospect system. Why? The better the farm system is, there is more potential the team has to grow. This can be done through trades for big players with prospects, filling in holes to your team when injuries occur, etc
4. What: Provide mental/motivational training to SF Giants player along with their minor league teams. Why? This past 2016 season was a huge blow for the Giants along with their minor league teams. They have an extremely difficult time bouncing back after starting off on the wrong foot. If they had mental/motivational training, there is no doubt in my mind that they would have had a much better season.
5. What: Find more ways to get fan involved turning games. Why? It is exciting for a fan to participate in anyway during a game. The minor leagues do a great job of this by having games during halfs and jersey auctions. If the SF Giants created more ways for the fan to get involved, there would be more ticket sales and profit.
SF Giants Social Media Usage
Despite baseball being over, that does not mean that the San Francisco Giants social media takes a break too. During the off season, there is still lots of posts on all their media platforms keeping the fans updated on what's to come for the new season. They are also posting player highlights for past seasons, news on team changes, and holiday posts from players.
Insider knowledge is a big reason why fans follow the SF Giants on social media, they want to be up-to-date on what is happening with the team. This kind of knowledge would entail of players contracts such as who is leaving and who is getting signed onto the team. Posts about people’s stats and recap of the games would also fall under this category. I find these kinds of posts on Twitter where they write a brief description with a link, enticing user to link on it to learn more. This will then take them to the official San Francisco Giants website in hopes to create revenue.
Community is another big part of the SF Giants social media. Fans love to see posts about their favorite people and what they are doing outside of baseball. During the off season, that is what the majority of posts are about. It's a great way to connect the fans to the players to see what life is like for them outside of baseball. The Giants aren’t just a sports team, but more importantly a lifestyle brand. They do this best by the creative content they post on Instagram including personal pictures from the players, graphics, and captivating photos.
I think both of these uses of social media really work for this brand, but there is only one thing I would add to make it just a little bit better. It would be really fun to see the players do a SnapChat takeover where the players sign into the SF Giants SnapChat account for the day, and post what a day in the life of a baseball player is like.Other than that, the Giants social media marketers do a great job.
$1000 Budget for Digital Advertising
Twitter would be the first place I would want to use part of that money for digital advertising. There are 3 unique targeting methods that would highly benefit the company. One of my favorites being advertisers can see certain apps that Twitter users are downloading to their phone, this is called installed app targeting. For those who have downloaded sports apps such as ESPN, MLB, SF Giants, and more sports relating apps would be my target market. Another strategy called tailored audiences would help target those who have subscribed to the San Francisco Giants website by using their email to target those with Twitter accounts.
Next I would then advertise on Facebook because they have 2 special targeting options that differ from regular display ads. Facebook has a special connection with its users better than most ad networks. Being able to take advantage of Facebook’s audience targeting method is very profitable that can't be found in any other channels.
Evaluation of SF Giants Website
With the abundant amount of content provided on the official San Francisco Giants website, it is created in a way that doesn’t make viewers feel overwhelmed. Most information organized into categories such as tickets, shop, and stats. All categories are listed in the toolbar at the very top of the homepage. This makes it easy for users to maneuver through the site. The homepage consists of news, video clips, game scores, and recaps of the from the latest game this allows fans to catch up on what they missed.
The color is very uniform, there is an absence of bright colors and background color. This is nice for web page viewers who are serious about the sport and just want to check up on how the team is doing. However if fans are looking for more fun and colorful platforms, just a few scrolls down from the top are links to all the team’s social media pages which are filled in pictures, game updates, and player highlights.
There is a fun fan page where I found a bunch of cool and exciting links. One of which was SF Giants themed pumpkin stencils that you could download for free! While I was glancing over the page, I clicked on a link that said, “Giants Singles” thinking it was going to give me a list of the players who are single. Instead, it took me to match.com to connect me with single individuals who also loves the San Francisco Giants! I couldn’t help but laugh at this one, the creators of the Fan Page are really creative! This page also includes great links for fans to have the best experience at home and at the stadium. A few examples include Giants Players Walk-Up Music, Kiss Cam proposal forms, and mascot Lou Seal appearances list.
Overall, I really enjoying exploring the official San Francisco Giants website. If you want to learn more about the team, buy merchandise, or find out how to be the best SF Giants fan, check it out for yourself!

SEO Evaluation of SF Giants Website
As I evaluated the overall looks of the website in my last post, I will now determine the SEO pros and cons of the official SF Giants homepage. To no surprise, the website's overall SEO rated fairly high on the Seo Site Checkup page, however have there were some errors in which I looked into. It labeled the San Francisco Giants website to have a load time of around 24.873 seconds which I found to be untrue. I tested the site load time on 3 different devices, and the site loaded in under 4 seconds on all of them. The keyword usage is also spot on for people trying to find their site, and even for potential customers. However, I feel if they used the city name “San Francisco” more to get tourists and visitors to become interested in attending a game. If someone were planning a trip to San Francisco, CA and https://www.mlb.com/giants popped up in their search, they might click on the link to purchase tickets creating a better ROI. Another positive aspect of the SF Giants site is that there were no broken links found. This shows that the site is always being updated and checked on regularly. The social media check was also passed, sports play a big role in social media so it is crucial to link those to the Giant's homepage. They have linked SF Giants Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, Twitter, Youtube Channel, Pinterest and more close to the top of the homepage for easy access. The website is also adaptable to mobile devices which is extremely vital considering many fans use the site to stay up-to-date with their team when they are unable to watch the game. Unfortunately there are a few major issues that it did not pass on the SEO Site Checkup. There are no H1 headings to “help define the topic of [the] page to search engines”. Nor did it contain H2 headings which define the subtopics to search engines. For search an immense concern, it is an easy fix that should be taken care of immediately to better the site. The last problem that should have users worried is that the server signature is on meaning it could “indirectly expose the possible security holes that are existed to the hackers, or at least make malicious attackers easier to identify your system for available attack points”.
