Lovetober is a month-long, prompt-based creation challenge for October for folks to create work about characters/people who love each other. Whether thatās platonic, romantic, or any other kind of love is up to you!Ā There are 31 themes, one for each day of the month, as well as a few alternative options. Creators can make any type of work they choose, whether thatās writing, art, edits, or anything else your heart desires. The prompts can be used as specifically as youād like and are made to be as flexible as possible. Creators can feel free to participate as much or as little as youād like and I will be sharing as many as possible here on this blog.
Prompts
If youād like me to be able to find and reblog your posts, here are the tagging rules. You can also feel free to tag the blog in posts, but this is how I will be looking primarily
#lovetober22 (event tag)
#theme (what prompt youāre writing for)
#fandom or #OC
#medium (gif, fic, art, etc.)
#trigger or #nsfw (try to tag for any known/common triggers or nsfw content that apply, because of how tumblr works remember not to add ātwā in front but only use the word/trigger itself)
anything else youād like
Iām happy to answer any questions you have for me! Here are some questions I know people often have about events.
Is x allowed?
There arenāt really any rules here, but please try to use tags to help people know what to expect.
Where can I post my work?
I will be checking the tumblr tag and have created an AO3 collectionĀ that folks can feel free to add their work to, but you can post wherever youād like.
Will you accept stories that were published before hand?
This is fine with me. I will be checking the tags during October. I think itās fun to create and post for events as they happen, but I think people should do whatever is going to let them have the most fun!

Every year, Christineās father would tell her stories of family long dead on All Hallowās Eve. After he died, she couldnāt visit his grave every year on that day, but she tried her best to honor his memory.
This year, the way she honored it was by waiting in the Palais Garnier until nighttime, after everyone had left. Then, she climbed up on the stage, set his picture down on the stage with her, and sang āThe Jewel Song.ā
Her voice rung out through the empty auditorium. She closed her eyes and imagined her voice reaching up to Heaven, to wherever her fatherās soul lay in eternal rest. All too soon, the last note of the song rung from the rafters, and the stadium was silent once again. Christine kissed her fingers and rested her hand on her fatherās picture. āI hope I have made you proud.ā
She tucked the picture into her coat and started climbing down the stage. As she reached the bottom, she heard the whisper, āChristine.ā
She clutched her coat. āWhat more do you want from me?ā
āChristine, please.ā
āYou lied to me! You have frightened me! You have terrorized the opera house! You murdered a man! And now you want to came to me this sacred night, as I do my sacred duty, and you want to interrupt even that?ā
āChristine.ā
āWhy are you here?ā Christine said.
Out of the corner of her eye, she saw movement behind a curtain. So that was where he was hiding. āI was passing by and heard you.ā
Christine edged towards his hiding place. āYou have been silent for these four months. Even when I begged you to come back and explain your actions, you ignored me. What do you have to say for yourself?ā
He was silent. Finally, she threw back the curtain to reveal him wearing this red, gaudy costume. āErik. What are you wearing.ā
He ducked his head and shrunk back. āItāsāitās going to be my outfit for the masquerade.ā
āWere you on your way back from the wardrobe because you were stealing materials for this?ā
āI live here.ā
Christine shook her head. āWhat are you supposed to be?ā
āRed Death.ā
āThatās rather morbid.ā
āI made a mask for it, too.ā He turned from her and took off his half-mask. He replaced it with something else, then turned to look at her. She gasped as she saw the new mask. It looked like a skull.
āErik, you are going to give someone a heart attack wearing that.ā
āOh yes, because as you well know, my bare face is so much better.ā
Christine winced. āYour anger frightened me more.ā He turned from her again, shaking his head. Christine reached out and touched his shoulder as she tried to understand the man in front of her. āYouāre used to people reacting badly to your face and nothing else, arenāt you?ā
He nodded. Then, he turned around, one yellow eye nearly glowing in the dark. āThen why did you run crying to your foolish boy?ā
āYou had just murdered a man! How could I not be frightened of you!ā
Erik stepped away from her. āYou will see me again at the New Yearās masquerade.ā
āYou canāt run from me like this. You canāt go into hiding again.ā
āItās not ready. I know how I will win your heart, but itās not ready yet. This isnāt supposed to happen. I have a plan.ā
āIs everything a scheme to you, then? Just a scheme to get everything you want?ā
Erik looked at her. āChristine, please. It wasnāt always that way.ā
They looked at each other for a few moments before Christine finally said, āThen please, stop hiding from me.ā
He stood still as Christine approached him again. She took his hand. āIf youāre to attend a masquerade ball, you need to learn to dance. And also, what better time to explain yourself.ā
Erik visibly swallowed, but followed her back up on stage, gentle as a lamb.

Christine sat at the table under the tree, sipping on her second latte. She tapped on the cardboard sleeve of her cup and checked her watch again.
Meg had told her there was chance he wouldnāt show up to the date. Christine hadnāt been sure how she felt about that, but she was willing to give it a shot. If anything, it was a distraction from the fact that Raoul was back in town, eight months after they had broken up.
She glanced at her phone and decided sheād give him fifteen more minutes before leaving. His name was Erik, and according to Meg, he was some reclusive composer who her mother ran errands for when she wasnāt working at the theater. A part of her wondered why the older Mrs. Giry would take on more work for someone else.
āAre you Christine?ā a voice behind her said.
Christine turned around to see a tall man standing behind her. He angled one side of his face away from her, but not enough that she couldnāt see the mask he was wearing. She looked at it for a second before saying, āYes. Yes, you must be Erik.ā
āYes. Megā¦ā He stepped back. āI shouldnāt have come,ā he said.
Christine noticed how his fingers seemed to twitch. She gently grabbed his sleeve. āItās okay. Are you sure you donāt want to talk for a few minutes at least? Maybe grab some tea?ā
Erik nodded and finally sat down across from her. Christine got up and ordered a chamomile tea for him, hoping maybe it would calm him down. When she brought it back to him, he said, āI donāt normally do this. Go out, you know.ā
Christine said, āI havenāt been on a date with anyone since I broke up eight months ago.ā She took a sip of her latte. āSo youāre a composer? Iād like to sing someday.ā
He smiled. āWhat do you like to sing?ā
She dove into talking about Faust and some of the other operas her father used to play the violin in. Something about himāshe found herself hoping that this wouldnāt be their only date.

This year had been different though. This year he was definitely wishing for more time. Or at least more time with one particular holiday goer, Felix.
