“In the beginning I was so young and such a stranger to myself I hardly existed. I had to go out into the world and see it and hear it and react to it, before I knew at all who I was, what I was, what I wanted to be.”
— Mary Oliver, from Upstream: Selected Essays

Sometimes we drift a part from those we love because we don’t know how to love them in a way that they understand.
While separated, we can only hope to grow as individuals. To learn empathy, have experiences, and increasingly move closer to who we truly are.
Maybe within that growth and self expansion, the harsh memories of why we never seemed to be enough for one another becomes clearer.
True closure has come through understanding myself better. How our separate projections of the ‘ideal relationship’ distorted the lens of our interactions.
