Around the Wand - Debbie's bag
Tonight we went to church with Dad and then to dinner at the Bluegrass Murder Mystery Theatre. I had a really good time. I always like a good show. My 15 year old son, didn’t want to go. Afterward Dad said to tell him that he was the only smart one out of all of us—as he laughs like Santa. That’s just him being silly. It really was cute and the food was excellent.
Speaking of church services…this morning I saw one of my favorite people there visiting her family…Debbie.
WHY is she one of my FAVORITE people?
There’s many reasons that have accumulated over the years, but one I’ll never forget is that Debbie was the FIRST PERSON to let me wear her MAKEUP. That’s when I first got my introduction in the beauty of cosmetics from the glossy lip colors to beautiful eye shadows and blushes. I was in awe and I was a gifted at applying it too; NOT AT ALL.
I was probably around five years old or so which means it went on in all the WRONG PLACES, but getting to put on her make-up was A DREAM COME TRUE!! Debbie was the COOLEST MOM ever! Her boys were so lucky, I didn’t understand why they weren’t playing in this stuff with me!!
I’d crawl up beside her at church knowing she had that “coveted” make-up bag in her purse. Seems like she had it all too and she DIDN’T MIND SHARING with me!! I LOVED HER as much as a little five year old heart could love a woman that’s not your own mother. I remember it like it was yesterday.
I’d walk out of that church building THINKING “I LOOK GOOD” - just like Debbie! I DIDN’T.
Mom’s speak the harsh truth whether we want to hear it or not sometimes. I remember my mom saying I looked like a CLOWN! In hindsight, I DID. No doubt! You see, I can’t say for sure, but I’m guessing the colors were matched all wrong for my the outfit that day, but it DIDN’T MATTER that mom thought I looked like BOZO. I knew that there was always next Sunday to get it right.
I’m sure it was a shock to Mom to see me so prettied up back then. Today, I see pictures from other Presenters of their little girls in Younique cosmetics and they look BEAUTIFUL. Nothing like what I am certain to have looked like coming out of that church building all those years ago. I’m so proud of this line and the fact that it offers all natural, mineral and gluten-free products that works for all ages!
I hope we have lots of Debbie’s in this world who let little girls play in their Younique makeup. I just want to thank mine for letting me play in her makeup bag!

I hope you'll come back often, especially if you can relate and share my sense of humor. Are you thinking but "Angela, I don't know your sense of humor yet, I can't make that commitment." It’s okay! I understand. What you read has a big impact on your day: does it uplift you? Does it make you feel empowered? Does it motivate you? I hope so. My goal is that you at the end of my post you'll say "that was WANDerful!"
I have a question for each of you. When did putting on make-up become such a chore?
Now, you can be honest with me (this is a judge free post)…have you lost that "make-up loving feeling?"
I had lost that feeling for a long time. Why? I hadn't found anything out there to get excited about!!!
I couldn't recall the last time I was ON THE EDGE OF MY SEAT about a cosmetic. So PUMPED that I rushed home to use it immediately. So beside myself that I couldn't wait to open the package and get it into my hands. So HYPED I was willing to take off the make-up that I'd hurriedly thrown on that morning just to see how pretty the new product would look when all my make-up was "just right."
At some point in time I had forgotten cosmetics is not suppose to be a chore, but rather something that uplifts and motivates me.
Do you remember the THRILL of your first make-up set? I remember playing in my mom's make-up with my friends. IT WAS THE BEST!
I recall usually having no where to go, but we put it on ANYWAY. We looked like we were going to prom but instead we went as far as the local grocery store with our parents. It DIDN'T matter! We had FUN! We felt so pretty and if we were lucky, we found a Polaroid camera with left over film from Christmas and used it to take a couple of 1990's style selfies for our "brag book" (we carried those EVERYWHERE).
Do you ever get these feelings today? How do you know how to get that feeling back?
I suggest a PLAY DAY!
Last week my BFF and I had the day off and guess what we did? We PLAYED; we played with MAKE-UP!
She came over that morning with no make-up on and her 3D Fiber Lash Mascara in hand. I had just received an order in from Younique and was so EXCITED. There were products that she had to TRY!
We spent time talking about what a great opportunity it would be for her to join me in my cosmetics business and we ate lunch, but the real fun began when we played with the products. My vanity was lined from top to bottom and we PLAYED. We played like it was our first make-up kits!
We started with clean faces using Illuminate. Next we used Divine (skin moisturize) followed up by Younique's Glorious Primer. I thought for a minute she was going to back out on our PLAY DAY when she said, "my skin feels so soft, I don't know if I want to put anything on it." and laughed.
WE PLAYED and had FUN doing it! We even put on extra coats of our 3D Fiber Lash Mascara to see how long we might want to wear them next time.
It's funny how life changes. A year ago I was in a deep depression over the unexpected death of my mom. Then the opportunity to start my own business came about (a business which reminded me of her). Now, I feel connected to her again and my love of cosmetics is renewed. Neither of those would have happened if I hadn't found an something to get EXCITED about and share with EVERYBODY!!

No matter what, SET some time aside TO PLAY. FIND that new product that YOU CAN GET EXCITED ABOUT…for me it was the Younique's 3D Fiber Lash Mascara. Yes, those are my eyes in this blog picture and yes, you really can't see my lashes in the top right-hand pic (lol).
