Living in the nature or go on a camping trip always seemed alluring to you back in the days of a modern world but after living on a post human planet for a few months it wasn’t as intriguing anymore. It was often scary, a strong wind always signifying an upcoming storm which meant to look out and search for a safe place in a local hut. A loud noise at night could always mean that something or someone is attacking the village. For this reason you became extremely sensitive to the sounds of the night, always prepared for the worst situation to happen.
You awoke to the sound of footsteps in front of your tent, a small chill running down your spine as you jutted up from your sleeping position. You held your breath in to focus on the sound as it ceased down in the movement of the wind and the rustling trees. Reaching to your side you grabbed your jacket before quickly pulling it on, crawling to the entrance of your small fabric hut to take a look outside. The campfire died down hours ago, only the light of the moon illuminating the surrounding area. You saw Senku disappearing into the woods, a small sigh escaping your plump lips. You remembered him doing it before on occasion, disappearing at night and only returning back to the village during sunrise. It was no surprise anymore by now, he had always been one to prefer the caliginosity and silence of the night.
At those times you knew were to find him. There was a place not far from the village, a cliff which is drowned in complete darkness at night and the stars shine brighter than usual there. At least it feels like that to you. You rubbed your eyes sleepily before getting up to follow Senku down into the woods. You knew how hard it could be to be alone with your thoughts especially at night and you wanted to stick around.. just in case he wanted to talk.
He came to a halt at his usual place, sitting down on the edge of the cliff while leaning back against a rock. You could hear him cracking his neck and a relieved sigh leaving his lips as his eyes rose to the starry nightsky.
“Feels good to follow me around, eh?” He called out, your blood freezing in your veins. Senku had not seen you nor could he have been able to hear you. You were keeping a short distance while following him, going extra slow so you wouldn’t stumble over any sticks and stones. You stood there dumbstruck, not being able to say anything as he started laughing. “Doesn’t take a genius to notice you, the moon is right behind you and it’s setting. I can see your shadow cause of the shallow light…” A small laughter escaped your lips as you realized how he had seen you, mentally scolding yourself for not thinking about hiding your presence enough. If it had not been Senku you had followed around you could be dead by now.
“I admit, I didn’t think about my shadow but it was only you who I was following so..” You shrugged your shoulders while chuckling, moving to slowly sit down next to him. “Hope you don’t mind me invading your privacy.” You mumbled quietly, nudging his arm. Senku snickered and shook his head shortly, his eyes never leaving the stars. “Of course, I don’t.” He mumbled before falling completely silent again. You knew that it was the wrong time to talk, he just wanted enjoy the tranquility.
Senku always had a lot to think about during the day, keeping up with everyone’s burden and trying to save humanity along with his own thoughts. It must be hard to never open up to anyone, but that’s just how Senku is. You pulled your knees to your chest, hugging them close while listening to the rustling trees and keeping your eyes on the firmament above you. The longer you sat there, the more sleepy you became again. You felt your body slowly feeling heavy, the cold embracing your skin, giving you goosebumps. Shyly you scooted closer to Senku, letting your head rest on his shoulder while a soft smile planted on your lips. “What do you think you’re doing there?” Senku whispered, his gaze coming down to meet yours. You could swear that you had seen a faint blush on his cheeks which ceased as fast as it came.
“You feel warm to me.. and it’s getting pretty cold out here.” You whispered while breaking the eye contact, the closeness of his face to yours bringing up a giggly feeling in your stomach. You were expecting him to lecture you about not wearing thicker clothes when deciding to follow him at night, or a snarky comment about moving to warm up when you’re cold, yet he didn’t do anything like that.
Instead he moved to gently wrap his arm around your shoulders, pulling your body closer to his own. You could feel the heat rushing up to your cheeks while avoiding his eyes, his stare still lingering on you. The cold you had felt a second ago disappeared into nothing and you did not know whether it was because of Senku’s bodyheat or because your body was suddenly burning due to the closeness. You could hear him laughing as he raised his gaze again towards the stars. “Tssh, cat caught your tongue now? Wasn’t this what you wanted?”
