hello!!

thank you to everyone who asked how i was doing in my inbox thats so nice of you🤍🤍 ive had a really bad last like year but i really liked looking through my blog and seeing all the nice stuff you guys said to me in the past :) i may or may not post on here often again, i have a really bad relationship with social media and fandom and shit so i try to stay away. ironically, im way more active on twitter (my @ is blutbaer) but i havent drawn iasip in a long time unfortunately 💔. if you like my art though i post it there all the time, whereas i forget to on here and instagram and tiktok ! im gonna post this and log off tho ! u guys are nice and i feel bad Disappearing but thats always what ive done on tumblr

I mean I don't think it's so much that people won't "accept" it if it was canon, but that there's not any good canon evidence to support that Dennis is a serial killer, despite the majority of the casual viewing audience believing so.

Whenever we see Dennis faced with the idea of killing, he's fascinated/excited, but every time it's been closer to a reality, he's fallen apart/broken down. Glenn himself has said many times (in interviews and on TASP) that he doesn't believe Dennis is a serial killer (or a psychopath, for that matter).

Dennis Reynolds Making a Murderer is kind of directly addressing this by having Mac and Charlie frame Dennis as this cold-hearted killer using shoddy evidence and straight-up lies to prove that Dennis killed Maureen. These lies are "believable" to the audience almost exclusively by the fact that Dennis is indifferent/shows no emotion toward his ex-wife's death. The end of the episode where Mac and Charlie talk about how they can further manipulate his actions to frame it like he's a murderer cuts to show that Dennis is annoyed and also kind of broken? by the fact that they want to see him that way:

Despite all the evidence to the contrary, Mac and Charlie (i.e. the audience) still insist on seeing Dennis as a murderer and will continue to try and twist anything he does to be seen that way.

(And considering they did write and film evidence that Maureen fell off the roof while all alone, Dennis is basically the only member of the Gang you can't connect a direct death to.)

I think at least among fans here, when most people say he's not a (serial) killer they're saying it as in what's rooted in canon: Dennis isn't strong enough to kill anyone. Which might come off as woobification to say he's much weaker than the rest of the Gang, but it's not so much said to excuse him as not a terrible person but said to show how his whole personality is built around fake personas and masking his true emotions to get what he wants (and avoid his true self). Unlike the rest of the Gang, who have a much easier ability to just demand and act with little-to-no remorse, Dennis has to heavily manipulate someone to take advantage of them. He has to convince and be convinced himself that what he's doing is what the other person wants (or believes they want)—which weirdly almost completely rules out the ability to kill (but makes him much worse and more calculated in many other irredeemable acts).

That being said, I would genuinely love to see an episode where Dennis has to deal with accidentally killing someone

ive seen this take reiterated before and ive responded to it before but i think it comes down to the fact that i LARGELY disagree with the fandoms characterization of dennis. i dont think i believe that dennis has actually killed someone in canon but i do believe that he has done heinous sexual crimes without remorse in canon which sort of undermines the idea that he cant bring himself to be evil without convincing himself that it isnt evil. im pretty tired of getting the same think pieces in my inbox and responding after i make a short annoyed post /lh, not directed at you specifically and i understand your perspective but the interpretation is just one that i really disagree with. i dont see dennis as a coldhearted monster but i think a lot of people struggle to understand the reasons behind why bad people do bad things. i know some people do not agree with the idea that dennis has bpd, but i do (obviously by my page lol) and the main thing about understanding someone with bpd is that they experience deep emotional turmoil and act in ways in an attempt to stop it. so i dont think its woobification to think dennis struggles with his actions, in fact him having Big Feelings is part of why i think he has bpd. he does exist through personas, but the root of his actions come from his pain and himself, and nothing will change that. is he canonically a serial killer? no i dont think so realistically. but people still get SO MAD when you enjoy the idea that he is! because they think he isnt capable of real evil! and i think thats almost harmful in itself when he is very explicitly a sex criminal. no hate to you! but im prolly done responding to this stuff 😞 im also at work
