Feeling stuck trying to give your characters a good flirty one-liner that doesn't sound cringe/overdone? Here are 20 ideas/dialogue prompts for you (that I may or may not have stolen from my own books):

Me opening up the word doc and getting stuck in the exact same place as last time

I just reada really good fic but halfway through I realized "oh shit this is really familiar.... didn't I write something like this once?" And as I kept reading I kept predicting what happened next and the further I went the more convinced I was that they'd ripped off my story-

like, copied the ENTIRE plot and re-written it, just better than I had? The characters were more fleshed-out than mine were, and the POV was more interesting, and the pace made more sense- but it was MY STORY?

So close to the end I was like "holy shit.. do I message them? Ask if my story inspired theirs? Should I be angry? Flattered?" Cause their tags and description didn't mention me AT ALL, which, sure, it's fanfiction to begin with, but if you're using my work than at least credit me as inspo, right? Just to be courteous?

But I get to the end of the final chapter, and it's not finished, and I'm kind of disappointed cause I never finished my story and I was really immersed in their version now and had been looking forwards to seeing how they tied up my loose ends- so I scroll to the bottom to leave a comment, and.

While lethal injuries often take center stage, non-lethal injuries can create lasting effects on characters, shaping their journeys in unique ways. If you need a simple way to make your characters feel pain during a scene, here are some ideas:

Sprained Ankle

A common injury that can severely limit mobility, forcing characters to adapt their plans and experience frustration as they navigate their environment.

Rib Contusion

A painful bruise on the ribs can make breathing difficult and create tension, especially during action scenes, where every breath becomes a reminder of vulnerability.

Concussion

I only have marriage data on people in my family tree (the online genealogy thing has made it like popping bubble wrap for me, so it has been a very useful distraction which has incidentally yielded a lot of interesting info) but there are 2,159 of them thus far and I have it going back 500 years. Which I thought might at least adjust for any changes in social mores.

Based on that 500 years of data (YES I DID A SPREADSHEET)

1. people marry their age-mates

2. they mostly get married no earlier than 18 or 19

3. usually in their early-mid 20s

4. oftentimes it was the woman who was older, if there was a 5+ age gap.

5. Marriage date and when a first child came along were not necessarily in that order (best one is 15 years between kid no 1 and wedding date).

In 1525, the daughter of the local manor-occupier married my ancestor when he was 26 and she was 37. I have a vision of someone saying "Now Susannah, don't you think it's time you got married?" and she said "FINE. Okay, that one's kinda cute." She had kids at ages 40 and 45 and died at 75. In the 16th century. I bet she wore all the colours, did all the reading aloud, and was all about women spinning.

people wore bright colors UNTIL the colors faded in the wash, and they really, REALLY liked dyes that didn't fade fast!! because people everywhere like colors! also they passed clothes down in the family when they grew out of it :)
