There is no actual, tangible reason why we allow people to starve, to be homeless, to suffer and die needlessly. Food is plentiful. Empty homes are plentiful. Medicine is plentiful. It’s hidden away behind constructs and we pretend those constructs mean something. There is an empty home and a homeless family, give them it. There is a sick child and common medicine to treat it, give it to them. There is a starving person and so much food wasted by corporations or hidden behind a dollar sign, feed them.
the thing is that for all its supposed faults, i would take this brand of 90s utopian globalism over whatever the fuck we’ve been doing for the last 10 years in a heartbeat
women of the pitt: yeah we've talked to all these people who have experienced the same things, and we think its really hard to hear how misogyny is still so prevalent in medicine. it's interesting how it shows up in robby because he's very complex and yet still has these biases, it's something so many women in medicine experience. we all notice that audiences don't always have faith in female characters as often, and i'm glad our characters are all so beautiful and diverse and tell us something about the biases that still exist.

the issue with growing up in the 2000s and 2010s was like there was this really big push toward "accepting your weirdness" overall but they meant like idk wearing mismatched socks or something not being tangibly beyond the norm in any way shape or form

when you tell people passports don't need to exist and people should be able to travel as they did throughout most of human history they think that's going too far because in their mind there exists a hoard of nameless faceless immigrants waiting to flood their country and "take over". without realising that there is nothing inherently superior about the imperial core countries - the culture, the food, the clothing, the architecture is not superior than that of the rest of the world. all you've got going for you are the benefits reaped from hundreds of years of historical colonisation and the continuing benefits of modern day imperialism. do you think if people's homes weren't subject to manufactured violence, artificial scarcity, and systematic disenfranchisement they'd all just wanna leave? can you not imagine a life where someone would be happier living in uganda than the usa?

some first red flags about the Pitt’s “realism” were all the way back in season 1. Remember when Santos threatened that father who may or may not have been molesting his kid? Remember when Robby REFUSED to report or investigate??
Yeah well there was a lot of (rightful) criticism around that scene. Doctors spoke up and said that you only need a suspicion to report something for CPS to VISIT. This doesn’t go on some kind of record for the parent and it’s weird that Robby would be so hesitant. Especially with a child’s mental and physical health on the line.
Then, knowing the child will be living exclusively with her father now that her mother’s imprisoned, I found the Santos scene odd. Threatening the abuser will most likely lead to him punishing the victim for speaking out. I know the show was trying to show how badass Santos is (and she is) and give insight into her backstory, BUT I’m not really a fan of sexual assault storylines being used to advance the story-arcs of others, or show how gold-hearted they are, when doing so just brings more risk to the actual victim.
AND THEN the worst thing is that they did it again. In season 2. Robby said the same thing, that they wouldn’t report. They could have totally reported.
I remember reading about how concerned ppl were abt this. They said there shouldn’t be misinformation about these types of procedures and they’re right. There shouldn’t be.
Realism, or something being “realistic,” is a narrative tool. Nothing can ever be fully realistic in story telling. The point is to give the impression that it is and that’s where the art lies.
So while child abuse happens and even false allegations happen, I found the way the show handled it to be unrealistic for actual scenarios. It was pretty obviously story driven.
But now, when they say that Samira Mohan leaving is just “realistic” for a hospital is SUCH obvious crap. Sirs you are writing this story. There is intention behind everything. Don’t pretend that this hospital is real and Gloria came down with her clipboard in the writer’s room and said: “You know we need to make some cuts. Let’s start with Samira. Randomly cut all her scenes.”
No one’s forcing anyone’s hand. So I’m just wondering like what happened? Why was she cut? They’re back peddling on all their answers so that’s super promising lol.
i think a big reason that the pitt’s fan base is so upset with season two was because it set itself up so differently. it spent the previous 12 months as an ensemble show, one made up primarily of women, and hugely of woc. it won awards for its ensemble, it had one of the most beloved cast of characters on tv right now. and sure everyone had their personal dislikes in the cast, but there was someone for everyone.
the pitt season two took all of that goodwill, that huge, diverse, incredibly intelligent and kind audience, and instead of continuing to give them the stories they wanted - that the show promised in season one - once it grabbed their attention it directed 90% of it towards the white men.
i think if season one had been more robby focused, people wouldn’t have been so disappointed by season two. but they also probably would’ve had a smaller fandom.
“oh but robby was always the main character even back in season one, the show was always going to be about him! he’s always been the most important to the narrative!” if you genuinely believe this i have a beach to sell you. the show SAYS robby is the main character, and everyone took that at face. but the problem with a show trying to say something is that it doesn’t matter if it doesn’t back it up with on screen evidence. it spends so much time telling you to read between the lines and then gets surprised when people call out the sexism and racism.
i think to a lot of people they felt like their identity was leveraged for views, and once the show had the audience it wanted, it stopped focusing on them at all. and if your character is robby or langdon or whitaker then there’s nothing wrong with that, but they’re definitely not the reason that i watched the show i’ll tell you that.
