I do tend to see L as more of a horrible person than most people seem to, but it's not in the "he has no capacity for emotions or morality" type. he's a guy who was raised to be a machine of detective work. he's simultaneously exploited and also does whatever he wants and whatever he finds pleasurable. he grew up seeing the worst of humanity and has had any sort of naïveté struck from him. he's a billionaire who doesn't do anything really that worthy with his money. he has control over the world's police force. he's just committed himself to this life of ruthlessness and searching for that next hit of excitement. he's not hopeful for change like light is. he knows exactly how he presents himself and exactly how the world sees him and he isolates himself but it's out of personal preference - he's not awkward about his appearance. he can be genuine to people but he doesn't hesitate to use them as pawns and lie to them to win his game. idk man. I just think he should be a jerk but he's a nuanced jerk.
