I was about to make an excellent observation about how Shen is the only one to wear a stethoscope in his scrub pocket because ✨strangulation risk✨(my man’s been through some shit).

okay i’m a liar i thought about it on my drive and decided to project onto mel and langdon (someone has probably already written this so please leave me alone)
(for background the hospital i work at has iphones for everyone to be able to communicate and then charge nurses and doctors have a pager as well but we only call a doctor or APP if someone is dying or about to die)
so i’m picturing an on call room type moment: taking a nap together on a 24 hour shift (or fucking if you’re a FREAK)
at some point the phones and pagers come off and are tossed to the side for a moment of peace in the all the chaos
they don’t MEAN to fall asleep but they’re exhausted and end up dozing off
after about an hour they’re awoken to the piercing sound of the phone ringing
DISTRAUGHT AND TIRED langdon reaches for the phone that’s ringing and answers as quick as possible “ED, Dr. Langdon”
the poor intern on the other end is confused because they definitely called mel “I’m so sorry Dr. Langdon I thought I pressed Dr. King’s number”
at this point langdon has come to a little and is starting to process the situation as mel sits up, also trying to process what’s going on
langdon is STRESSED and hits them with a “oh, our phones must have gotten swapped on the last trauma, what do you have?”
the intern begins to rattle off medical history, vitals before finishing with a breathless, “so i did an ABG and their pH is 7.0 and not responding to BiPAP so we have to intubate now”
mel is trying to grab the phone but langdon stands up so the intern can’t hear her frantic questions
they pull themselves together as much as they can and exit the on call room 3 minutes apart but it’s not missed by princess who raises the “are dr king and dr langdon fucking?” bet to $25 for a vote
(anyways this may become something i write but probably not)

love katherine lanasa talking about the punch as something that stripped Dana of her dignity because it was not a patient in distress, it was a man who had it out for her (as a healthcare employee that he perceived to have lousy ethics and priorities and as a woman). love that she talks of Dana’s desire to walk away as something that is influenced by the example she wants to set out for her daughters (and granddaughter), the question of how you can explain to these women you’re raising that you’re going back to work in a place where you are abused. Considering not simply her shame in being stripped of dignity but her concern about what kind of ideas her daughters might get from her adds a nice layer to Dana’s reaction I think, especially when considering Dana’s line about her youngest still worrying her sick.
