If I could live in any country I’d actually pick new zealand based 100% entirely on the slugs they have there. I’m not even kidding. If I had the money and nothing at all anchoring me to America I’d live there to be around this one species alone:
#you will never see one of these guys most of the slugs here suck ass sorry
I dunno about that, they seem to be photographed with some regularity along your west coast, along with other species in their group! The “leaf veined slugs” which I think might be largely completely unique to NZ and maybe parts of Australia???
This “red triangle slug” is apparently common enough in some areas that I’ve heard of kiwis slipping on them on sidewalks. There’s amazing diversity of snails, land planarians and land leeches throughout NZ too! Also the wetas. You basically have the only animals anyone ever needs really, you just gotta possibly drive a few hours into the middle of nowhere for some of them :)
AHEAD OF THE GAME
“Zooarium, which is like a regular zoo but everything is in tanks because the zoo is for merpeople” is a concept I had not previously contemplated but I am absolutely delighted by it now.
