“It’s not a bad city to live in, that’s for sure, but neither is this. –yeah, man it’s okay; I’ve got a little girl. What about you?”

“I’ll take your word for that one. No this isn’t a bad town at all. No kids at least not that I know of.”

“Yeah, I know.” She sighed. “It’s funny; you’re not the first or second person to say that, and yet I still haven’t been able to shake it all away. It’s not that i can’t see things getting better, it’s just…I don’t know it’s been shit for me for so long it’s hard to accept that anything’ll get better.”

“Its never going to be easy to shake away, Cam. Even when the good things come into your life. You are just waiting for the other shoe to drop even if it doesn’t.”

“Of course I understand that. What I don’t understand is what you’re…protecting me from and I want to. I want like hell to understand that.” Jocelyn paused, sighing softly. “But…until you want me to understand that..I guess I won’t.” She shrugged. Obviously it still bothered her but she knew she’d just have to deal with it for now.

Lucas wanted to tell her everything, tell her that he;s protecting her from his family but he knew that he couldn’t. “Just trust me and no more girl talk with my sister.” Last thing he needed was something to be said or get slipped up. “Don’t give up on me, Jo.” He whispered that last sentence this time.

“And here you go.” Lucas said, appearing a couple of minutes later. Handing her drink to her.

“First couple of years I lived in Brooklyn and then spent the rest in Manhattan. Man, that’s a good question. It’s hard to compare the two, so I don’t know if I can pick one over the other. I mean, this is a nice place to raise kids, so that’s definitely a good thing.”

“I’ve visited New York a couple of times. I bet it is. Actually it does seem like a really good place to raise kids. Do you have any kids? If you don’t mind me asking that is.”

She accepted the roses with a blush, “Oh wow, thank you, kind sir,“ she said with a soft chuckle, “Why don’t you come in while I put these in a vase with some water?“ She walked back into her house and went into the kitchen, “I live here with Mitch, you now, my brother-from-another-mother. So, most of the stuff is his,“ she explained as she grabbed a vase and filled it with water. “However, I’ve been slowly convincing him of getting new furniture and other fun stuff for the house. So I guess it’s obvious which items are mine. Like for example, this great vase.“ She put the roses in the vase and put it on the table. “Oh wow, they look great. Just as you,“ she said and blushed shyly. “I’m really excited for tonight. And really curious where you’ll take me. I guess I’ll just have to wait and see.“

“Your welcome. Like I said I jut figured you got plenty of daisy’s because of your name. I wanted to be different.” He said this with a smile on his lips. “Yeah, thats not a problem.” He moved inside, closing the door behind him. That was when he glanced around a little bit, listening to her voice, he raised a brow slightly. “Who is Mitch?” He questioned as he moved into the kitchen, glancing over at her. “Well I’m glad that you have been trying to convince him to get some new stuff.” He chuckled a little bit as mentioned the vase. “Yeah I can see that and the flowers look good in it.” He glanced at the table before looking at her. “You are the one that looks stunning and beautiful.” He told her honestly. “Yes, you’ll just have to wait and see and hopefully you have fun which I know that you will.”

If he gets his wishes, he won’t come. Simple as that. Hopefully his wishes don’t start getting too difficult because if they do, then that’ll be a problem. You’ve got these southern kids holding guns and killing animals at ten! Of course, Papà was training up to kill peo- that’s not the point. Lucas, you just keep telling yourself that. As long as the mental age is young, the actual age shouldn’t matter right?

As if it was that simple. When has it ever been simple with that man? His wishes are always difficult rather we like it or not, no matter what our father is always going to be a problem. I know that we do, and I partly blame us for that and the movies and shows that are violent. Yeah he was..I will continue to tell myself that. I guess not.

Jocelyn sighed and ran her hand through her hair. She hated knowing that he was only telling her a small fraction of the truth but she wasn’t going to push anymore. Knowing that he’d probably only tell her when he felt ready to and not a moment before. “I trust you, Lucas.” She said, without any hesitation. He was one of the most important people in her life so how could she not trust him?

The small faction was the best thing that he could tell her, it was the best thing for her. Even if he hated it. He wasn’t sure if he would ever be able to tell her everything. Lucas had done a lot of shit. “Good, I need you to know that I would never let anything happen to you. You understand that right?” He needed to make sure that she understood that, because he would take a bullet for her.

“I know I do, and I’m grateful for the people I have in my life. It’s the same crap that always does…” She said before sighing and shaking her head. “Just all the doubts I have in my head, about how I’m doing, if I’m doing right or enough by my family.. just a lot of things in general. –Yeah I guess you’re right, maybe I’ll be able to do that some day soon.”

“Those people in your life are always going to be there for you. That same crap is always going to be there.” Watching her shake her head, he listened to her. “You are stronger than all of those doubts, Cam. Trust me on that one. You can do this, I know that you can.”

“I’m very very happy to hear that, Luke. I don’t know where else I would go then. This location is perfect, after all. And the company isn’t half bad either.”

“Just telling the truth, Brooke. Well I don’t want you to go anywhere else. It is the very perfect location. And I’m glad that you like the company.”

“The good ol’ LA, huh? I love that place. I was born and raised here, yeah, but I spent the last eight years or so in New York.”

“Yup good ol’ LA. Oh yeah? Where at in New York? Do you like that better or here better?”
