What makes a Silent Hill game Tick?
1. Mature and complex Characters that are involved one way or another in situations or themes that are very adult driven. Such as Abuse, Sex, and Death.
2.Atmosphere above everything else. Meaning you have to be wiling to sacrifice gameplay and even the scare factor in order to improve the game’s atmosphere. A Silent Hill game doesn’t necessarily have to be scary from beginning to end, it does need, however, to have an extremely thick atmosphere from beginning to end.
3.Scare factor. I mentioned the games don’t need to be scary from beginning to end, however, the moments that do emphasize on fear need to be truly frightening and shake the player to the core. Meaning it’s best to leave behind half assed jump scares or themes that you’re not willing to explore to their very core if you want to scare the player the “silent hill way”.
4.Less is more. Silent Hill never had an over abundance of ANYTHING ever. The games always found a balance and left the player wanting more. Subtlety is KEY.
5. Akira Yamaoka.

Woah woah woah wow wow… check out these maquettes posted by Rich Moore! Made by Gentle Giant… yet not in their store. And though I’ve thrown my wallet at the screen with ever increasing intensity, they don’t seem to be letting me have one. Rumor says they may be only for cast members…alas.
(But seriously, Disney, you are so dropping the ball on grand merchandising!)
