Sad Call of the Mountain is the first song on my upcoming tricanta (an album of three songs) available Sep. 23, 2023. It was such a honor to get to record it with one of my favorite living singers, Danny Paisley.

Hey Folks! I am very excited to release a live video of "I Hope Today Lasts a Long Time," a song from my new album. Thanks to Jake Dwyer for his amazing videography and Kyle Dean Smith for his musicianship. Hope you enjoy.

Hey Folks, Excited to be releasing a new video this week on Thursday, Aug 17th, 7pm. Filmed by Jake Dwyer of Shape Studios, it's a live take on one of the tracks from my new album, Ponies Back Home.
Hope you enjoy the video and hope to see you at the Alleghany Jubilee on Tuesday night!
Slow Lane
Hi Folks, I wanted to take a moment to highlight an unusual track on my new CD - "Slow Lane." For reasons I don't understand myself, I took a notion to have a track with just bass and three vocals and then three fiddles that mirrored the vocals. I wanted the fiddles to be fiddles, not violins, and I greatly appreciate two of my favorite people and musicians in the oldtime community, Steve Kruger and Trevor Mckenzie, for venturing out with me.
I ended up being pretty happy with it - hope you enjoy. Make sure you can hear the bass - it's the heart of the song and you might even hear some others voices you know on the final chorus...who can resist 6 part harmony?
As always, any likes, follows, and shares greatly appreciated.

Folks I wanted to take a moment to highlight another song and singer from my album, Minnie Lou Johnson.
When I was a kid my grandmother would take me to a little Pentecostal church in Sparta and there would always be time in the service for anyone to get up and sing or perform as the spirit moved them. My grandmother was a prolific songwriter, and she would often get up and sing songs a capella that she had written. Even though my mind was often on the piece of bubble gum Preacher Cockerham would give us after church and the buffet at the Pizzeria that often followed, I can still see her perfectly standing in front of the small church singing her songs.
This was my favorite that she sang. On many of her songs I put music to the words, but this one is all her. I’m thankful she went to the recording studio one time and got down some of her songs as she heard them in her head.
One of my favorite voices in the world and one of my grandmother’s great friends in life was Minnie Lou Johnson. Minnie also sang one of Ellen’s gospel songs on my last album, and I couldn’t imagine anyone else on this one. She is one of the last great mountain singers in my personal life, and I always loved it when she would come over to Ellen’s with her husband Alan and we’d all sing and play together and Ellen would sit back in her recliner with a cup of coffee and tell us her thoughts on how good we doing - if you knew Ellen, you knew she didn’t hold back on much.
Thanks also to Kyle Dean Smith for his beautiful guitar work. Hope you enjoy. Any online likes/follows always appreciated.

Well if we get to come out west again we may just save some gas money and canoe the New.
We had a magical run through Arizona - so many kind folks and hosts. We got to play the legendary Handlebar J's in Scottsdale and then made our way down our way down to the magical land of Bisbee. Our old dear friend Matt Kinman joined us and we got to play the Bisbee Grand Hotel and the Shady Dell Campground. When they were playing Lefty Frizzell and Bob Wills over the loud speaker we knew we were where we belonged.
I'd never thought much about the beauty of a cactus flower but seeing the saguaro in bloom really struck me - such a big, rugged and weathered desert plant with such a fragile growth on it - it was a little like seeing a gruff old man tenderly hold a baby.
We are heading home now to our own sweet mountains and the Mt. Airy fiddlers convention. Hope to you see there!
Many thanks to Calvin at the Americana Music Show in Hillsborough, NC for reviewing Ponies and includiing it on his show. He's got a great newsletter and you can follow him on Twitter too...

Hey Folks, I wanted to highlight a track on the new album and thank Amanda Funk for recording with me. I hunted a long a time for just the right voice for this track and then found she’d been dancing right in front of me nearly every week at the Alleghany Jubilee.
Also featured on the track is one of my great friends and musical partners in life, Kyle Dean Smith. His solos are some of my favorite in the world.
Any likes/follows/shares greatly appreciated. Hope you enjoy.
The song is dedicated to Barbara Church.

After several years, I’m excited to announce the release of my new album Ponies Back Home along with the title track video, “Icelandic Ponies.” It’s an album somewhere between country, Americana, and mountain music. It’s an album about love, loss, and moving on. It contains all original songs - some by me, some by my grandmother Ellen Brooks, and one by my father Robin Pasley.
It was recorded by Wesley Easter at Eastwood studios and features many of my closest friends and favorite musicians - many thanks to each of them. Also thanks to Produced By A Girl for distribution and advice.
The album is available for purchase here on Bandcamp:

Words & Music by Lucas Pasley
Lucas Pasley - Guitar/Vocals
Jennifer Martin - Vocals
Jeremy Ball - Harmony / Irish Flutes
Videography - Shana Leigh
Throughout my life my grandmother frequently referenced this quote attributed to Einstein: “Men marry women with the hope they will never change. Women marry men with the hope they will change. Invariably they are both disappointed.” Having seen its truth many times, including in my own life, I couldn’t help but want to capture it in song.
Featured on the track are Jennifer Martin on vocals and Jeremy Ball on harmonies and Irish flute, two dear friends of many years. Jeremy is playing a handmade flute from the world renowned flute maker Aaron Olwell of Olwell Flutes who I’m proud to say is based in Massies Mill, VA.
Many thanks to Shana Leigh for the beautiful videography and Kate Irwin for the use of her beautiful home.
The track is available for purchase at the link below on Bandcamp and available to stream on all major services with distribution by Produced By a Girl. Any shares or follows greatly appreciated. Hope you enjoy, Lucas
