First of all, please excuse me if my topic sounds sensitive or uncomfortable. I don't like to talk about sensitive subjects because many people tend to get caught up in sensationalism, and that's not what this is about.

Well, as you know, I am Mexican and many of my friends are too. Today, an enormous wave of crime-related violence broke out in many states across Mexico.
You see, it’s not certain that this situation will end anytime soon. Something similar happened during my own childhood—there was a power struggle within organized crime and that era was horrific.
To be clear: I love my birthplace, it is beautiful, but unfortunately, we cannot look the other way and pretend these things don't happen. I cannot believe this is occurring; it makes me so angry, it fills me with rage.
Dear friends, please stay safe.
It has been wrong since they decided the World Cup events in Jalisco would continue as if nothing happened, even after finding those 400 people [remains] around the stadium. It has been wrong since the government started denying the crime problem. Personally, I don't want to live through violence; last year I almost had a heart attack when my best friend, Nathe, went through a hellish situation regarding her kidnapping. Honestly, I thought it was over, that I’d lose her forever. To this day, she still carries the trauma and the hatred, and I can’t blame her—I was also so angry and distressed.
It is a beautiful place, but what is wrong with wanting to live in peace forever? The news will say those people in Jalisco or other states "asked for it" by being involved in bad things, but that is a blatant lie. They were people promised better jobs or people looking to escape poverty—hardworking people. Jalisco looks more like Derry than Mexico, and Derry is fictional!
I love my home, but... just because of this, I don’t want to relive what I lived as a child. Nor what happened to Nathe. It is the only reason why I would like to emigrate with my mother To live with the rest of our family in the Northern Italy once I finish saving what we need.
I am actually safe myself—I live on a safe mountain—but many others do not have that right. The right to live safely.
I mean, I look at the map of where the disasters are happening and it’s literally half of Mexico, and I look around the map and all I see is that my friends and family live in those places, and it is terrifying.
Mexico is beautiful, its people are beautiful. Their love is beautiful. Its culture is beautiful. I wish fear didn't govern us.
