It’s so concerning how social-media has glamourised the worst of human attributes: vanity, exaggerated self-importance, boastfulness, materialism, deception, envy, ostentation, narcissism, superiority. Please don’t be programmed into believing that any of these traits are positive, they’re not.
Before you get mad at your partner for not doing what you expect them to do, Stop and ask yourself “have I ever communicated to them that I have this expectation?” If you have not, it’s unfair to expect them to read your mind.
So many arguments are saved by just opening your mouth and saying “hey hun, in the future can you….” Whether its articulating how you like to be loved, supported, or communicated with, you have to open your mouth. Your soul mate (IMO) isn’t the person that just always knows what you need when you need it without you telling them. Your soul mate is the person who hears your needs and thinks “I have no problem doing that because I love this person with my whole heart”
So check your attitude and open your mouth. Closed mouths don’t get fed.
My current state..
Crucial Ingredients for a Great Relationship
1. Shared sense of humour; lots of laughter and fun
2. Little gestures of thoughtfulness
3. Personal space (there needs to be separateness in your togetherness)
4. Having the ability to spend hours together (simply doing routine or humdrum things)
5. Having “fairness and respect” rules in place for when you argue or fight
6. Having an attraction that goes beyond the physical; liking each other, and their personality
7. Believing that your partner has what it takes to live the life that they want to live – believing in them always, and especially when they’re down
8. Having a relationship that’s built on trust, openness, honesty and faithfulness.
You are drowning yourself by overthinking everything. The next time you find yourself overthinking or beating yourself over something, picture something simple and put no thought into it. Look at the trees moving in the wind or take a moment to look at how beautiful this world is. This world is too beautiful for you to waste your time in unecessary thoughts that are just drowning you.
remember: you can’t force anything on anyone. you can’t force commitment, loyalty, honesty, consistency. you can’t force them to keep their word, or to communicate, or to see the great thing right in front of them. you can’t force people to be or do things they aren’t ready to do themselves.
always choose to be with someone who is emotionally intelligent. don’t get caught up in the fact that you are loved, because love comes easy. but loving someone in the way they need, and understanding why they need to be loved like that is what a relationship is about.
“We often add to our pain and suffering by being overly sensitive, over reacting to minor things, and sometimes taking things too personally.”
— Dalai Lama (via naturaekos)

i urge you to seek comfort in the fact that everything in the universe is subtly interconnected. it didn’t work out the way you wanted it to but you’ll end up where you need to be. keep your head up.

“When someone is going through a storm, your silent presence is more powerful than a million, empty words.”
— Thema Davis
Be so rooted in your being that nobody’s absence or presence can disturb your inner peace.
“Develop a strong opinion about yourself so that you don’t accidentally start believing what others say about you.”
— Akin Olokun
