President Obama just perfectly captured what it’s like to love hip hop without ignoring its problems
The woman he’s speaking to is a Vietnamese rapper named Suboi, who rapped to the President about financial inequality. Watch the exchange here.

By the way the recent VH1 Hip Hop Honors show honoring women M.C.’s was one of the best things I’ve ever seen on television and I’m not kidding. I was playing Queen Latifah’s first single (”Princess of the Posse / Wrath of My Madness”) on the radio when I was 20 and she was still a teenager!
YO YO was there!!!! QUEEN of womanist rap, along with Latifah.
I’ll be posting clips from the honors show this weekend. In the meanwhile here’s the video page from VH1

“The only person standing in your way is you.”
Black Swan (2010) dir. Darren Aronofsky
“Reggae music is always there now but the thing that makes our music so important is the lyrics I think. Yes, it is necessary to understand the lyrics. You know. It has meaning to it. But because some people…understand the words, some people never go through them situation. But dreds of the world suffer. Masses of the people suffer. And this music comes from the masses of the people.”- Bob Marley
And that’s the thing about people who mean everything they say. They think everyone else does too.

Two beautiful, important lives needlessly taken
Two sets of loving families and friends that will forever be changed

being a human is kinda dumb because we get to REASON and THINK HARD which really isn’t fair, i’d rather be an orchid and eat light beams all day, no offense to the miracle that is evolution, like, thanks for the opportunity to participate in an advanced society but put me in the ground
Don’t wait for other people to be loving, giving, compassionate, grateful, forgiving, generous or friendly … lead the way!

The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance.

A wonderfully honest and strangely assuring illustrated meditation on what it’s like to live with anxiety by French-Canadian designer and illustrator Catherine Lepage.
I dislike when ppl are always telling me to be positive and happy, especially when I vent a lil about my emotional problems. I have come to terms with my feelings. i embrace my sadness, anger, annoyance and i let it all go. i don’t push away those negative feelings and pretend everything is fine and dandy. I go through my lows and I have my highs. I know how to be positive and stuff but i’m most certainly not that person all the time so why do people tell me to be positive when im expressing my thoughts. like let me live. you have good intentions and i appreciate where youre coming from but sometimes you gotta let people voice their sadness
Agreed, sister. It is 100% okay to not be okay.
