The fact that I am not singing ABBA on a Greek Island wearing a Boho Chic orange skirt, platform heels, and a floppy hat while the world falls in love with me is criminal.

“I take it you were forced to grow up in his shadows, yeah?” It was evident in Lucy’s voice; and Thea couldn’t help but feel bad for her. As the second youngest of nine, she’d grown up living in the shadows of her older siblings; but she’d ensured from a young age she’d stand out. Getting into dance gave her that opportunity. On stage, she shown, far brighter than any other Baudelaire child ever did. On stage, she wasn’t Rory’s twin or Max’s sister or Ari’s sister or Remy’s sister or… The list could go on and on and on. “All Ro told me is that her best friend’s shagging him and that he’s childhood friends of her lady cop.” She’d never stop referring to Piper as such. “But a dive bar? Lead the way. I’m parched.”
“Yeah, kinda. I mean, the boys had it worse but, like, there were times when you’d think my legal name was ‘Harry’s little sister’.” Her hazel eyes rolled up, the annoyance resurfacing having been called that on four separate occasions during the lockdown. “But whatever, I make my own waves. I’m sure you’ll find that out soon enough.” Lucy wiggled her eyebrows over at Thea, whom she was beginning to take quite a shine to. That was until she began speaking of how she’d come to hear of Harry. “Ugh, gross!” She complained, clamping her hands over her ears and wrinkling her nose up at Thea. Only dropping her hands to her sides when the other had stopped talking. “Well, get me a freakin’ drink after that.” She grumbled, tipping her chin in the direction of the Silver Bullet. “C’mon, then. And no more talk of our siblings’ love lives, please.”

“Well, don’t go blamin’ me for bein’ so happy’ta have a sister, finally.” Chuckling a little watery, Ember used her sleeve to dab away the moisture from under her eyes. “Well your secret is truly well’n safe with me, I can promise you that. You can go ‘head’n be that big sap you are on the inside.” Shaking her head as she lowered back into her seat with a sniffle, her entire being was filled with warmth at hoe her family had instantly grown so easily, meshing so well together. Every moment just made her realize more and more just how meant for each other she and Harry were. Families and all. “It’s okay, I ain’t got much idea what I’m doin’ either, but we got Eve, Rory’n all’a them who I know are gunna be ripe for helpin’, too. My Ma is gunna come down in a few weeks, too. She wants’ta help us get all started. There’s also one other thing that’s gunna be your responsibility and that I’m real excited ‘bout. The stagette.”
Lucy paused to drain the last dregs from the beer can before setting it aside. “No idea? Em, weren’t you married before?” She added with a little furrow of her brow and a perplexed cock of her head. “Anyway, yes. Eve and Rory are going to be real good. And Mama Rose! God, I love that woman. I don’t think I spoke to anyone else as much all holidays. She must be so freakin’ excited.” The grin on her face spoke volumes about the soft spot she harboured for the Rose’s mother. Given how much she missed her own, it was no wonder. A wild look crossed her face at the mention of the stagette. Various ideas, most of them involving naked men, spun around her mind until she stopped on one in particular. “Oh my god. I already have the best idea.”

“Birch… Birch… As in Harry?” Thea had tried her best to recall all the people from Carroll Rory had rambled on about. The name ‘Birch’ definitely rung a bell; so she wondered if this Lucy woman was related to the Harry fellow she’d heard so much about, mainly due to the fact he was dating engaged to her sister’s best friend. “And please for the love of God, never say ‘sucking face’ when talking about Ro ever again.” She still had trouble believing her sister had a girlfriend, let alone was off making out with one.
“Yes, as in Harry Birch.” Lucy droned with a little roll of her eyes and just a smattering of affection. That had been all that she, Max and Jude had heard at school. Harry this, Harry that. But she was a little surprised that Thea recalled him too. Then again, it was Harry. “He’s my biggest brother. I take it you heard about him through Rory?” Lucy snorted a little at the disgust that poured from the English woman, finding the poshness that hung on her like a perfume rather amusing. “Anyway, while your sister is suck- spending time with Piper, why don’t you join me for a drink? There’s a little dive bar down the road.”

“As much as I’d love to see you eat your hat, I’m afraid we did share a womb.” Thea couldn’t help the chuckle that escaped her mouth at the other’s words. They were so ridiculous. “I’m Thea.” She began to introduce. “The older twin.” And she never let anyone, especially Rory, forget it. Thirty five minutes might not seem like a lot to the average person; but to a twin, it was like being eons older. And older meant wiser… Usually.
“Oh, thank fuck.” Lucy breathed out, one hand laid melodramatically across her chest while the other pointed towards her cap. “‘Cause this thing is corduroy and that would’ve been a slog.” She pulled a face at the thought, her little nose wrinkling up at the thought. “Thea. Cool, nice to meet ya.” The blonde bobbed her head and offered Rory’s older twin a toothy smile. “I’m Lucy. The youngest Birch.” Though their family name held no weight with the Englishwoman, she’d almost felt obliged to offer up her relative age to her siblings just as Thea had. “As for Rory, I dunno. I’m gonna go ahead and guess she’s sucking face with Palmer a.k.a. hot lady cop.”

❝ you okay ? ❞ a hand swept through lydia’s hair , and she sat down on the desk next to the girl . ❝ oh , i’m sorry about your flight . i could go for a banh mi , to be honest . how fucked up does it get you , do you know ? ❞ she took out her phone and checked it . 35% battery . ❝ my battery has 35% on it , do you need to use it ? ❞ outstretching the phone towards the other , she gave her a smile .
"You know banh mi is food, right?” Lucy lifted a suspicious eyebrow and snorted out her amusement. “But I could really use something to fuck me up right now too, ugh. I never thought I’d ever have to step foot back in this shit hole again.” She huffed, slapping across her eyes and then peeking through her fingers at the phone that was outstretched to her. “Are you serious?” With wide eyes, she accepted the phone and pressed a kiss to the girl’s forehead. “You, my friend, are an angel. I just wanna check my travel insurance to make sure I don’t need to claim this shit, like, now.”

“I think a barbecue is a wonderful idea.” Part of Ember was nervous about having Lucy as her maid of honor, but she knew that her future sister would do everything in her power to make her day as perfect as possible. It was the idea of the bachlorette party that really made her nervous. Still, tears sprung to her own eyes as she saw Lucy’s well up as well, shaking her head as she hugged the blond back as hard as she could. “Of course I’m sure. You’re my sister already’n I cain’t even imagine anyone else bein’ in that role. I know you’re gunna do amazin’ and it means as much’ta Harry as it does’ta me. It’s gunna be your job’ta figure out how we’re gunna make it work’ta have Wilbur as the ringbarer, though.”
“Oh my god, stop it.” Lucy sniffed, pulling back out of Ember’s secure embrace just to fan at her glistening eyes. But it was to no avail as a few tears slipped from them anyway. “This is, like, the second time you’ve made me cry in a week. I’ve got a fierce reputation to uphold, y’know?” Wiping at her teary eyes, she gave the Southerner a sweet, soft smile. “Ok, I’ll confess, Em. I don’t know the first damn thing about being a maid-of-honour, so you may start to regret this pretty soon. But turning Wilbur into a ring bearer? Now, that I can do.” A grin sidled across her lips as she sipped on her beer. “Have you guys even spoken about dates or anything? How long am I working with here?”

Dylan’s eyes turned sad briefly. “Why aren’t you going to Vietnam anymore, babe?” Her eye’s quickily brightening as she knew she’d share an apartment with one of her bestest friends. “So I can start moving in whenever. Figured I’d just start moving stuff over slowly. I’d love the help if you want, and you could bring some of your stuff by too.” Her lips tightening a little. “What happened between you and Penny?”
“Ugh.” Lucy moaned, rolling her eyes up with a bitter shake of her head. “So, like, I missed my flight ‘cause of the blizzard but also dumb ass me forgot to shut my windows when we got evacuated. Everything’s fucking ruined and was counting on getting my bond back to go. But whatever, now I get to move in with you!” The sour expression on her face perked back up as she finished speaking, squeezing her eyes shut in glee. “Fuck yeah, I’ll help. I may have noodle arms, but they’re stronger than they look.” Lucy’s hazel eyes shifted over to a group of people as they passed them by before looking nonchalantly back at Penny. Her shoulder lifted in a shrug. “We made out a bit. Well, kinda a lot.”

Unbothered by the muddy mess her piglet trailed through the house behind him, Ember was all smiles as her future sister-in-law followed her into the kitchen. Hands busy with making her coffee the way she liked, the old fashioned way with a french press, her brows went up at the mention of future roommates. “Dylan and Penny, huh? That’s the girl from the bar, right? The one Harry said was your pen pal? Well that sure does sound like it would be fun trio’ta have. I bet ya’ll will have a great time livin’ t’gether.” The mention of a party had Ember snorting through her nose as she poured her coffee, coming over to lower down at the island beside Lucy with a shake of her head. “The weddin’ is gunna be party ‘nough for this girl, honestly. I don’t want nothin’ big. Just a nice dinner here ‘round a nice big ‘ol bon fire would be just fine with me. As for stayin’ with us, you know you ain’t even gotta ask. You could just walk right in with your bags and neither’a us would think a thing’a it.” Setting down her mug Ember gathered her into her arms. “I wouldn’t have’ya nowhere else ‘til your place is ready. I did wanna talk’ta you ‘bout something’ta do with the weddin’, though. I was wonderin’ if-… well I was wonderin’ if you would wanna be my maid’a honour?”
”Yup, that’s her.” Lucy bobbed her head as she spoke, a lock falling from her carelessly tied bun as she did so. “Maybe too much fun.” With a small snort of amusement, Lucy buried her smirk into the top of her beer and helped herself to another sip. Her mouth fell open, primed to protest as Ember took a seat beside her but promptly shut it as a dinner was offered up as an alternative. “Well, between your family and ours, it’s gonna have to be a big ass dinner. Ooh, we can have a barbecue!” Lucy said, tapping excitedly at September’s shoulder just as the smaller woman began to wrap her up in her arms. Despite how tiny she was, somehow her hugs felt just as warm and secure as Harry’s. There was a peace about the both of them that calmed her frenetic soul. Lucy’s arms wound around her sister-in-law to be, resting her cheek upon the side of her head and sighed. Calmed. That was until a tentative question was raised. Lucy pulled back, the whites of her eyes widening. “Me?” She jabbed a finger at her own chest, as if there were anybody else in the kitchen that September might have mistaken her for. “Are you– I mean, yes! Yes, one hundred per cent yes.” She rambled, feeling an unfamiliar sting of tears prick her eyes as she threw her arms back around the other. “Oh my god. Are you sure?”
thea-soleil:
“You haven’t, by chance, seen a girl who looks just like me but with less fashion sense, have you? Probably on the arm of her hot lady cop of a girlfriend?” Moving to place her sunglasses atop her head, Thea strode up to the nearest individual, figuring they probably knew her sister. After all, it wasn’t like Carroll was that big of a town. Everybody probably knew everybody. What a weird concept, especially to her born and bred city-loving self. “Seriously. Who knew little miss thrift shop and save the world could land such a proper catch.” She added, that last bit mostly to herself.
“Wait, hold up.” Lucy pointed a suspicious finger at the woman who looked exactly like Rory. In so far as what lay beneath the lick of makeup and the expensive looking clothes. The fog began to lift as she went onto describe who Lucy could only imagine to be Piper. “Do you mean Rory? Because if you guys didn’t share a womb, I will eat my fuckin’ hat right here, right now.”
