cygnus-bâ:

If Cygnus was brutally honest with himself, Lucius was the sort of son that Cygnus had longed for all his married life. A proud pure-blooded heir who had shouldered the weight of the Malfoy name and all it entailed with such ease as Abraxas had passed. There was no doubt in Cygnus mind that Lucius had been a good fit for Narcissa, a good respectable marriage with a respectable pureblooded heir.Â
âI most certainly agree with you there. A monkey or a pig are neither commonly available as a masquerade mask, nor flattering. They donât even seem to correlate with the stereotype of the animalâs personality. Perhaps a lion might better signify power, rather than a monkeyâŚif I ever decide to throw a bizarre masquerade party, with strange masks, remind me to at least have them make sense.â
Cygnus swirled his wine in his glass before polishing it off, popping the empty glass on the tray of a passing waiter. âA pointless game of no consequence which required some soul-searching. Itâs curious indeedâŚand has certainly aroused my curiosity around Madam Zabini.â
Cygnus paused, glancing around to see if there was anyone listening to their conversation. âI find that seeking power can get addictive. Once youâve tasted true power flowing through your veinsâŚ.you can never get enough. One must control their urges, lest they become unrulyâŚ.but it is easy to seek more and more.â
.
Lucius wrinkled his nose slightly at Cygnusâs suggestion. They werenât the worst suggestion he supposed, but still. âI would hardly want to be seen in a lion mask. You know the connotation that animal holds in these parts. I should think i prefer the monkey, regardless of how atrocious it looks,â he said. He couldnât imagine wearing the Gryffindor mascot, even for a party. He wouldnât want to lump himself in with that disgraceful house. They were loud and uncouth and he found it a challenge (at best) to respect anyone who would dare associate with the house. Unlike his own, which held prestige and only the best names available to the wizarding world. âor perhaps I can simply remind you not to throw a masquerade party instead.â
âRaises curiosity perhaps, but moreso makes me question taste levels. That along with the guest list. It seems that itâs not just the proper bloods who have been invited,â he said taking a sip from his glass. âI had hopes perhaps we would have a new recruit,â he said dropping his voice to a softer level, âlooking at this party, Iâm not entirely sure about that.â
It was almost ironic, Cygnusâs comment, given Bellatrix seemed to be the living proof of that point. âYes well I suppose itâs for the best then that Iâve been raised with power. One learns to control it and its urges early. Besides, growing power isnât a bad thing as long as you arenât messy about it.â
