I FORGOT
the year is 2012.
I have two tabs open. one is tumblr. I am 160 posts back on my dashboard - I have made it back to the place I left off the night before.
satisfied, I open the second tab to pull up a post-avengers fanfic. everyone lives together in stark tower - each of them has their own floor. for no explained reason, loki shares thorâs. no one questions that he has not been arrested. the team has friday evening movie nights. at breakfast, thor eats all of tonyâs pop tarts.
I am content.
to all the people saying this was an embarrassing time: I am 34 full years old and reading/writing these fics brought me so much joy and rereading them still does. embarrassment is a construct, cringe culture is dead, and the found family trope saves lives.
Stede's crew complaining about having no pirate flag
Stede: Alright! Arts and Crafts time everyone!
The crew:
look, i do honestly love that david jenkins had stede not really understand he was in love with ed until the scene with mary because heâd never been in love before and had no frame of reference, but it does make some of the earlier scenes fucking hilarious.
like, heâs standing in the light of a full moon, whispering to ed that he wears fine things well. ed moves towards him for a second before backing off. they go their seperate ways but turn around to stare at each other for a minute. you can cut the romantic tension with a knife. and meanwhile stedeâs thought process is âhaving a real normal one with my good friend ed :)â
love the way david jenkins refuses to apologize for shit just not making sense. how do they get places so quickly? doesnt matter. why is ed wearing full leather wouldnt he be sweating like hell? oh yeah it'd be awful to be a pirate in that, but it's hot, next question. he does not hesitate to just be like. eh who gives a shit. they're in love, who cares about how the boat got there. it's all fake anyway. here watch taika and rhys kiss.

Being in Pain. Expends. Energy.
A friendly reminder for those of us who do very little during the day (by ânormalâ standards) but are still exhausted
Your body is literally fighting the pain. Fighting takes energy
I know this, but it is still bloody inconvenient to come home intending to Do Stuff, and instead here I am two hours later waking up groggy on the bed with the cat
Iâve been calling it âPain Drain.â Iâm sad that so many people know how about âpain drainâ because they also experience it. đđđ I say we spread the news, because some people think when we limit activity because weâre in pain, that itâs some kind of vacation. We hate it. Itâs no frickinâ picnic.
The Pain Drain is real. đ

Increasingly, books are something that libraries do not own but borrow from the corporations that do.
To illustrate the economics of e-book lending, the N.Y.P.L. sent me its January, 2021, figures for âA Promised Land,â the memoir by Barack Obama that had been published a few months earlier by Penguin Random House. At that point, the library system had purchased three hundred and ten perpetual audiobook licenses at ninety-five dollars each, for a total of $29,450, and had bought six hundred and thirty-nine one- and two-year licenses for the e-book, for a total of $22,512. Taken together, these digital rights cost about as much as three thousand copies of the consumer e-book, which sells for about eighteen dollars per copy. As of August, 2021, the library has spent less than ten thousand dollars on two hundred and twenty-six copies of the hardcover edition, which has a list price of forty-five dollars but sells for $23.23 on Amazon. A few thousand people had checked out digital copies in the bookâs first three months, and thousands more were on the waiting list. (Several librarians told me that they monitor hold requests, including for books that have not yet been released, to decide how many licenses to acquire.)
