“of course.” he gave a nod, the wicked grin never leaving his face. even with people antonin considered friends, his smile had been fake. “not just good -  amazing.” he corrected. the world was better now, and antonin was all the more grateful for all of it. “yes, well, it’s almost like something out of a dream.” he confessed to lucius, rubbing his shoulder before he turned his gaze from the man. “anyway, what’s up with you and narcissa? you guys getting married soon?” 

“Well I’m happy for you,” he replied with a nod. The world was certainly looking up for everyone on their side of things. “Soon enough,” he nodded. “We haven’t set an exact date yet but we’ve been engaged for over two years now so I don’t think our parents will let it be much longer.”

“Without your attention, I might actually have to find a hobby,” She spoke, her voice dripping with faux dread, going as far as to place a dramatic hand over her heart. “I downright refuse to get into bird watching, Lucius.” 

“If you ever get into bird watching I’ll have to reevaluate our whole.. friendship.” He smirked, leaning back and taking a drink from his glass.

“Well between you and I…” he sighed “I think she’s having an affair.” He ran his hand through his hair “My pride and reputation is at stake. She gets in moods where she begins to yell and throws fits.” Trying to shrug it off Alex chuckled “I’m a bit over the edge myself. We’re a match made in hell.”

“What gives you that idea?” he asked, raising an eyebrow as he looked over at Alexander. Coraline sounded like a handful and Lucius was reminded how lucky he was to have a fiancee that wasn’t quite so difficult. “Why does she get in moods?” He questioned, curiously. “I’m sure she’ll calm down. Have you been engaged for long? Narcissa and I are in a much better place now than when we first got engaged.”

“Not quite as easy, no,” Lucius agreed with a short nod.

Alexander shrugged and gave a half nod “I could use a glass.” he huffed and threw his jacket over his shoulders. “Coraline has been a very vengeful bitch”

“I could do with two,” Lucius said with a half chuckle. The day so far had been less than enjoyable and he was hoping it would start to improve from here. “How so?” he asked, as he started to walk in the direction of the pub.

“i like where your heads at.” antonin chuckled, even just the idea of hurting people made him excited. the man was glad to hear that lucius was doing good. “that’s great. i’ve honestly been on cloud nine since we graduated hogwarts.” he explained, a wicked smile on his face. ever since voldemort came into power, antonin felt he could do whatever he wanted - within reason of course. “my mother and i are in a much better position now.” he had been happy to have a nicer life for himself and for his mom who had worked so hard when he was a child. now, he had a good job and she didn’t have to worry about anything. 

“A man’s got to let off steam every once in a while,” Lucius said with a slight grin. Some might play golf to do so, others hurt muggleborns. Their circle just tended to prefer the latter option. “Things have been good,” he agreed with a nod. The world was changing to suit their desires and it was just as good as they had been promised. “That’s great.” While he wasn’t exactly able to understand what Antonin’s life had been like growing up, he understood his desire to make a good life for his Mother.

“And your certainly humble too.” Arthur replied sarcastically. “Yes you truly have it all my mistake and it will be a right pleasure working at the ministry with you”

“Oh I don’t think we’ll ever be working very closely together,” Lucius said with a short laugh. It was unlikely that he would ever set a foot in Arthur’s department.

He glanced around.  “There’s far too many idiots, just saying and doing stupid things. They should really learn to be less stupid.” 

“You said it,” Lucius agreed with a small smirk. “Less so these day though.” The new measures had made sure of that.

Dull, would have been the last word Rodolphus would have used to describe the way his day had been going. Papers from distant ministries called for his attention and while he knew there were many in his discipline, Rodolphus knew that his mattered jut a bit more. Looking for Lucius had been a choice rather than a requirement, just as it had been a choice to pick him out of everyone to venture out with. 

There was little care over who had previously maintaining the others attention before hand, had they not left before he reached Lucius, he would have waived them away. “Surround yourself with better people, maybe then you’ll actually advance.” His words were light, a joke in some way although he doubted Lucius would see it as such. “We’re taking the next two days off.” 

And so it began again.

Despite being a close friend of his, Lucius quite regularly wanted to use an Unforgivable or two on Rodolphus. Now was on of those moments. “I don’t choose who works in the accidental crimes unit, Rodolphus,” was all he replied, stopping himself from rolling his eyes. Who he surrounded himself with in work was not exactly his choice. Outside work? Well, let’s just say he was working on it.

“We are?” He wasn’t really in the mood to do anything with the other man but that was unfortunately unimportant.

“ No, please don’t… I don’t want her to think I can’t handle the responsibilities of being Lady of the House. Especially when we both know I’m more than capable.” The blonde lead Lucius to the restaurant of her choosing; a small french cafe that Narcissa simply adored. It was cozy and quiet enough to have a true conversation. “Après midi! Une table pourdeuxs'ilvous plait” Narcissa greeted the host as they were seated.” Lucius.. are you excited?” Narcissa simply asked.

“She wouldn’t think that,” he assured her, but if she didn’t want him to talk to his mother he wouldn’t. “I know you’re more than capable but the plans have just started, they don’t need to add more pressure already.” It seemed a bit early to him to already be talking about a nursery, but also sounded very like his mother. “Excited for lunch or the wedding?” he asked as he sat down, thanking the waiter as he handed them menus.

“that’s the difference between you and i,” antonin told him. “you still hold onto that hope.” his eyes trained on the disappearing figure, and almost wished it had been someone he could mess up. “that’s a shame.” he then turned his eyes onto the malfoy man. “how’ve you been, lucius? besides dealing with all these fools.”

“Maybe, but even if they don’t learn we can always teach them,” he replied, not exactly imagining a friendly classroom scenario. There would be plenty of opportunities to mess up people who were an actual problem so he wasn’t that bothered by the lack of opportunity in this moment. “I’m been well,” he answered with a nod, “Keeping busy. How about you?”

Narcissa looked up at him for a momen, a twinkle in her eyes could be seen before her glared laid ahead. “Quite ready, I’ve been working nonstop since sunrise. Our mother’s have me planning every detail of the wedding to a honeymoon to a future nursery..” a blush rose lightly on her cheeks as she smiled. “ It’s all worth it though…”

He rolled his eyes slightly at the mention of their mothers, “I’ll tell my mother to lay off a bit.” He couldn’t very well tell her parents what to do but he could at least try with his own. “It sounds like you deserve the break though, so you can choose where we go.”

Barty was looking around the room, when he spotted Lucius.  He was trying to decide between getting a drink or approaching him and approaching him seemed like an okay idea. “You’re telling me. I’ve dealt with many stupid people all day and I’ve had my fill of them.” 

“I know the feeling,” Lucius sighed when Barty spoke about all the stupid people he had to deal with.

“ What a lovely way to greet your fiancée..” Narcissa spoke teasingly while rounding her way in front of Lucius, her heels clicking against the stone pavement with each stride. Her eyes connected with his for a moment before she closed them going on her tippy toes to present a soft kiss on his cheek.

“It’s not as though I was calling you stupid,” he said, when he recognised her voice. “Good afternoon,” he murmured with a smile as she kissed his cheek. “Ready to go get some lunch?” he asked.

“oh, lucius don’t you ever learn?” antonin teased his fellow death eater. “almost everyone in this world is stupid compared to someone like me or you.” this was a half joke, but some truth held in it. antonin had been quite an intelligent bloke, and he assumed the same of lucius. they both had picked the right side, after all. “what was his problem, hm? should we get a little too involved?” antonin asked, with a raised eyebrow. he definitely was in the mood to harass any mudbloods or rebels.

“Mm. I keep hoping people will get smarter and yet,” he trailed off, gesturing at the figure of the retreating man he had been talking to. Lucius shook his head lightly, “Unfortunately he was just unintelligent, not completely lacking in common sense when it comes to which side to stand on.” Even their side had idiots and he didn’t really have to patience to put up with it.
