Do you have any advice for people who aren't very confident about their art/ideas, maybe for those who are losing passion?
It seems like you draw a lot just based on what I see on tumblr. Idk how you keep that spark going, it's really cool to see!
This might be a little hard to hear, but a lot of times artists are fueled by validation. Being seen and having others tell them how beautiful their work is. However, for those who are still learning, it is a bit more difficult to receive the criticism that comes with practice. The viewer most often forgets that every artist started from the bottom. Even the greats had some pretty ugly sketches in the beginning.
My best advice for artists who are still learning and who want to enjoy the process of drawing and keep that creative spark going is to keep stuff for yourself. Draw what you enjoy without worrying about the criticism of others or the thought that it is bad and that people might not like it. Forget about everyone else. Just enjoy the process of making your own story, your own world.
This might not work for everyone, but it did work for me. I do draw a lot, yes. But that is because art has always been a way of escaping the noise of the outside world. I can sometimes get overwhelmed by too many things around me. But when I focus on just drawing, I feel better and at ease because I'm only doing that one thing. This can apply to practicing and learning the basics, to just making fan art of your favorite characters. I have a lot of work that I just keep to myself, and no one in the world knows it exists because it is just for me.
Now note: Critique is still very important because a lot of times you get blinded to your own work, and you don't know what is right or what is wrong. Learning how to take critique is also very important. Be very open-minded. And it is okay to get stuck sometimes. Art block is usually the mind trying to slow down for a bit to get ready for the next influx of ideas and inspiration.
Inspiration exists everywhere. It's just a process of slowing down and paying attention to your surroundings.
