Lucy Jacobson || 21 || New Vampire I'm not going to lie, it's been rough. Raised to hate vampires and then becoming one is not what anyone wants. Hell, I was the worst kind, a Ripper. But I'm better, or at least I can say that I am. One thing is for certain though. I was born for this.

"You looked like you could use a hug."

He nodded. “Exactly. See, now you’re getting it. Plenty of time to make mistakes, make them again and learn. I’m sure it won’t take you too long. Especially in this town. So many people to look out for you.” Liam smiled. “Cool. Coffee it is. And, yes. Pretty much.”

Who knew that you could be so positive. Seems I could learn a thing or two from you. I'm beginning to realize that. All I need now is a couple  more people offering me free hugs and I'll know for sure this is the place to be. Yeah, just text me or something. Apparently it's something I'm still getting the hang of. It's not easy making the transition from not caring to caring and it's even harder when everyone expects you to be happy.

At the sound of the familiar soft voice, the corner of Adam’s lips twitched up into a lazy smile. “Lucy.” He murmured, as if confirming that he wasn’t completely out of it. “M’fine.” He dismissed, tilting his head slightly, letting his hair fall over his forehead. “What’re you doin’ out so late ‘nyway?”

She let out a small sigh as he continued to speak. He didn't sound good and he certainly didn't look good. He smelt good, but Lucy tried to push those thoughts away quickly. Instead, she ran forward and put his arm around her shoulders so he couldn't fall. "I'm out helping you apparently from my way home from work." Lucy scrunched her eyebrows. "Adam, you aren't fine. I'm going to bring you home, alright?"

The encounter had gone a lot smoother than Adam had thought it would, given the fact that his body parts were still intact. Well…aside from the possibly broken nose, he seemed pretty alright, which still constituted as a win for him. He’d been leaning against the brick wall for what seemed like hours now, head spinning, knuckles raw and throbbing. Just as he was about to scrape up some courage and head home, he heard the sound of footsteps. Despite the pain, he straightened up as he noticed the outlined figure approaching. He couldn’t quite make out who it was with the neon sign a few feet away shining so damn brightly. “You need somethin’?” He managed to mumble out, ridding his voice of any hostility, leaving only genuine concern.

She was walking home from the university after working late again. That's when she saw Adam, leaning against a wall and looking extremely beat up. Concern spread across Lucy's features immediately, but as she ran up to him the smell of blood filled her nose. So she stopped in front of the sign of the store, keeping a safe distance. "Shouldn't I be asking you that?"

"You looked like you could use a hug."

"Years and years of practice. Trust me. Once you’ve lived a little while.. you’ll learn when to listen to people and when not to. Or who to listen to and who not to. The world is a tricky and dangerous place. Even for us." He chuckled. "At least I got a hug, that is true. And, well, I’ll be sure to find you. Maybe we can grab a coffee or something." He nodded his head. "I know. I’ve learned to keep my head up."

I suppose I have forever to learn that now. I'll get in the swing of things before you know it. [She smiles] Yeah, coffee sounds nice. I would like that. [She runs a hand through her hair] Silver linings and all that. They become faint, but if you're lucky you can spot them out.

Oh — I’m returning alright. You know what, it still looks exactly the same.

I think the fact that I sleep in your bed is proof enough that you're special to me. [She sighs as she pulls away, walking away from the door since the desire to stay is stronger than the desire to leave] Okay, okay. I know I messed up. You'll take care of it though, right? You'll protect me? I won't do it again...

Of course I want you here, and I promise to try. I don’t want to be strangers either, Luce, but it’s gonna take time. I feel like we have to get to know each other all over again, it’s not like we can just pick up where we left off. But the point is that I’m your brother, and I’m always going to be.

Stop it Lucy. I’ve seen what happens when you do this, when you carry this around, and I’m not gonna let that happen again. You’re either gonna fall off the deep end and start ripping heads off or turn your humanity off. Or both. And I wasn’t there to help you the first time, but I am this time.. you just have to let me. I can handle it, I can.

Time...we have all the time in the world. I'm not going to abandon you anymore. I'll do better. I know I've been avoiding you, but no more, okay? [She wraps her arms around him in a hug] I love you Wyatt.

It's not fair to you. Stop trying to carry a burden that you don't have to. Your life is hard enough as it is, and you just want to make it harder? Wyatt, I'm fine holding it on my own. I'm your older sister, it's my job to. You deserve to be happy for once. I want nothing more than for you to let go and be happy.

You've never beaten me before and this time would be no different. [She chuckles] Does that mean that you actually want there to be a next time Sophie?

It didn’t seem like you were letting me win, you actually put up a fair fight. If you really did, I’d just be completely bummed.

[smilling, he leaned forward and pecked her lips, then rested his forehead against hers, a light chuckle leaving his lips] I’ve heard that before.

[She bit her lips as she cupped his face] Well maybe...you should start believing it. [She sighs] I wish you'd stop doing that. Stop making me angry. Stop trying to get me to hate you. Every time my patience wears thinner.

"You looked like you could use a hug."

"I don’t listen to most people." He shrugged his shoulders. "I’m sure they’d seem just as complicated as mine to you. I don’t try to undermine people’s problems. Enrolling again. Yes. I’ve been there for a little while." He sighed. "Some of them more than others."

I try not to, but how could you not? People's opinions matter. Maybe. At least you got a hug out of it, right? I work at the university, so I guess that I'll get to see you around some then. Hopefully when both of us are a little happier. [She sighs] Don't let it get to you. I'm sure it will blow over.

Just your run of the mill small town even if you are returning.

No we can’t. I’m long gone. I had so much time at my disposal and I haven’t even bothered. You still can, but i’m not the guy for it [he smiled weakly and shaked his head gently] I’m not failing, because I wasn’t even trying.

Well...if it's any consolation I don't actually hate you. I know you're good.[She looks at him sympathetically] And even if you've given up on yourself I won't give up on you.

It’s not about breaking the rules Lucy. There are vampires older than me in this town that break the rules. It’s about control, it’s about humanity. And i’m still learning.
