Frustrations with a dash of hope

I am struggling with making the diamonds to go with the gold kangaroo. I spent more than my allocated time trying to figure this out with not much success. The eyes still aren’t finished. I was meant to have the claws on the hands half done today.

I think I need to ‘chop off’ the sections of the kangaroo that are meant to be diamonds (eyes, claws, genitals) and make them into new ‘layers’ in the file. Something like that. I feel frustrated but I’ve learnt this much so far, I can learn more and figure it out.

I’m lucky that I’m ahead with the ‘Bloom’ painting as I didn’t get any of that done today either.

Something positive to end the post with though: I think I’ve found the tutorial I need for the ‘chopping’ of the genitals etc. I just need to watch over it again then do it.

This is the rendered 3D image of ‘Bloom’. It’s done - enough. This is all the information I need to begin the painting.

I don’t think it looks that interesting here, but it doesn’t need to. If this was the actual artwork I would be spending a lot more time getting this looking really good.

The next diamond I do will look even better. But for now, I’m still taking a chance painting this! I hope it works, stay tuned to find out…

I took the masking fluid off my new painting today, what a chore!

I definitely need to do two coats of masking fluid next time so that it comes off easier. It would be better spending the extra time at the beginning rather than now.

But the diamond is now ready to paint!

I made another ‘world’ for the kangaroo, using a different set of photos I took on Thursday. This world is more flattering. I am vain - I choose this one.

I’ve started work on the diamond eyes. I couldn’t figure out why it wasn’t working until I realised just as I was finishing for the day that not all the ‘vertices’ (the dots) connected to make a ‘face’ (the flat plane that the vertices create). I’m not sure if this is clear with the first photo - see how it looks messy?

The diamond just looks like glass. I expect that when I fix up the vertex/face issue it will refract like a diamond. Then I can get it attached to the face with some claws.

Today I made a 'world' for the kangaroo. I'm in it, can you spot me in the reflection?

He's looking a bit more like a kangaroo now.

Its posture is still very awkward, and there is quite a bit of tweaking to do here and there, but I will be careful not to do too much as not all the detail will be seen. The posture and where the weight falls is very important though. I think the head might also be too big. But I’m pretty happy overall.

I started working on the diamond eyes too but I will show you that another day…

I'm working on a new big painting. It's good to be planning large artwork again!

I'm learning how to use 3D imaging software (Blender) to make my reference image for the painting. I've made most of my kangaroo and am working on the final gold bit - the head. It's really tricky! But I'm slowly getting there....

Ready to Dance with the New

My heart feels full and I am making artwork again. I'm ready to hear new ideas, try things suggested to me, give it a go, see if it works.

So I'm mixing new mediums. Trying colour combinations I haven't tried before. But this art practice needs a bigger shake up then that I think.

A Reawakening

Baby steps lead to big, confident steps.

After a hiatus of making art, here I am, slowly dipping my toes in. I'm so keen to make a splash but I'm finding that caution is still holding me back.

The artwork is 'too tight'. The giving is 'not bold enough, not often enough'. Little baby steps though.

The art I have to share with you is beautiful and important. As my confidence grows day by day the more of my artwork I will contribute to the world.
